Nolan's Batman 3 Title
Batman sequel 'Rises' again
LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008. The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D. Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title. Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales. Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP |

For some reason the key wasn't active until 1:00am so I couldn't watch the trailer before "Avengers", but I did run it afterwards. However, I had to watch it from the projection booth. For that reason, perhaps, I really didn't care for the third trailer at first; however, watching it again via the link above, I like it more than I first did.
As for the comment about people being disappointed, I agree. This film has no over-the-top villain/acting to snare people the way Ledger did. Also, the Joker is much more iconic and well-known; Bane is not. This film doesn't look to have too much romance or femininity, so there's not much to draw non-fanboys. It's going to be bleak, violent, and depressing. It'll still make oodles of dough, but I don't think it's going to touch "The Dark Knight" (which grossed $1B worldwide, over half in the U.S.); I think it'll finish somewhere in the $600M-700M range, which is still awesome but will probably somehow be seen as a failure in Hollywood's eyes. |

Two plusses for this one right off the bat (so to speak):
No eternally nauseating Heath Ledger hype. No ugly-ass skull-face droopy-eyed Maggie Gyllenhall. Ann Hathaway is big big big step up in the babe department. Hopefully Bale will remember how to act, too. That would be a plus. And hopefully Nolan got treatment for his ADD. That would be nice as well. |

I'm surprised that no one, so far, has mentioned Bale's Batman voice in this trailer.

Definitely having Anne Hathaway & Marion Cotillard is a huge step up. |

Heath was a godfather to one of Jake Gyllenhaal kids. Heath probably lobbied for Maggie to get the part.

I'll concur on Maggie Glylelenglyglhgll. Ugly-ass chick.
I didn't notice anything, but it does seem to me that Bane's voice has been cleaned up some (louder and clearer). I think Nolan heard the criticism of the five-minute promo released last year. |
