Time again for a new phone
So I'm eligible to upgrade my cell phone again August 1st. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 through Sprint and was ready to get the S4. Now I see that LG is set to release their Optimus G2 sometime in August.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/09/lg-optimus-g2-leak/ I've never considered LG, but I'm intrigued by what I've read. Has anyone else looked at this and is it worth waiting another month or so for the LG? Also, does anyone in the KC area have any experience with Sprint's LTE 4G? Is coverage still spotty? |

That's weird, all 4 carriers have it listed as coming soon, and my provider as well as Samsung sent me a message promoting the Edge and the option to be notified as soon as it's release date is announced and first available for purchase? Seems odd to demo that so much for it to end up a bloated one off production run of niche quantity? We shall see. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. If Samsung thinks they can gouge $$$ by comparison to the price for the regular 4, then they can kindly piss off, and maybe I will reconsider looking at the Motorola or HTC's latest flagships.

If I bought the note 4 for full retail would republic wireless let me use it for their 40 a month plan? What about Ting?
I went to Sprint today and was disappointed that you can ONLY get the $60 plan if you pay full retail of your phone. If you go with the contract agreement price of $349, you are screwed and cant get the $60 a month plan. Tricky tricky marketing Sprint

Not sure about republic wireless, but ting would be a no-go. Ting uses the Sprint network and can generally use Sprint phones with the caveat that Sprint usually makes them wait a full year before they can use a phone in that way. So, the best you could do is buy the note 3 (which has just became available to Ting in the last month). A notable exception to this policy is the Nexus 5 (and presumably forthcoming Nexus X) when it was purchased directly from the Google Play store. As the Nexus X might be a phablet, it could be worth waiting to see if this could work for you. I'm still looking at the Nexus 5, but I'm also considering the LG G2 which will become available to Ting in December. I think I could get either of them used for roughly $250 and then plug into the Ting plan. My sense is that Ting is a good place for someone who doesn't have to have the very latest tech and who doesn't use tons of data (either because they don't stream a lot or because they have access to a lot of wifi). |

Bought the G3 on Monday. We're on Verizon, and it was $100 after a $50 mail-in and 2 year contract extension.
So far, I really like the phone. I'm coming from a S3, so the UI is a bit different, but nothing too off the wall. Screen is fantastic and vivid, it takes great pictures. Nice to browse on. Battery life is average I'd say. Nothing to shout about, but not terrible. I like the lack of a physical home button, and the fact that the bezel is slim. I can hide the home tab when I browse and get a pretty huge screen. I might update a bit more as I figure this thing out. I haven't gone too in-depth with it. I guess this is considered a phablet/good sized phone, and it looks a bit larger than my S3, but it isn't obnoxiously large. I was considering a Note 3, so I was going with a larger phone anyhow. |

Here she is
Might be sending her back though. For one, I already wanted the change the accent color back to what I originally wanted (red) and secondly the bottom left corner of the wood back is not sticking to the phone, which apparently is a common issue with the wood and leather backs. I can hear the adhesive pop after I lift my finger up from that corner. |
