i know where youre coming from, but that excellent receiver isn't going to be there when we pick unless we roll the dice on dgb. why take a non elite wr when there will be a borderline elite lineman available and we have 5 terrible lineman? makes no sense.

what wr do you specifically want to take in round 1? the big three are gone. the next best we could hope for would be jalen strong or dgb... strong isn't much better than guys who will be there in the second and third. and dgb is a boom bust.

why not give our selves the best shot at finding a good lineman, by taking one in the first, when we already have maclin, kelce, charles, and 5 shitbag linemen?
The message is that offensive linemen are just as capable of busting as any other position.

You don't just take one because it's a need and there are a bunch of guys with high draft grades available.

Maclin, Charles, kelce, Wilson, DAT. Really diverse set of athletes that give us YAC in a hurry.

I'd fill the OL spot in rd 1, draft Agholor rd 2 then eric Rowe rd 3 to take Parkers spot

Damn.

Well, I say the FO abandons the Alex Smith plan by game 4 if he can't get this guy the ball.

They gave Bowe huge money and nothing.
They are about to break the bank again on a wideout who better fits the scheme.
dude either steps up or steps the **** down after this season.

Great move for many reasons.

Love it.

i know that, but i dont see how its relevant... i dont want us to take a lineman because im afraid the wr will bust. i want us to take o line because

a. we will have already signed a top 10 wr

b. there wont be any elite wr's available when we pick

c. we have 5 pinecones across the o line.

d. the first round gives us the best chance at finding a lineman that will pan out.

e. there are still a lot of good wrs that will be available when we pick in the second and 3rd round.

Heck we could even still keep bowe. with maclin and bowe, we wouldn't even "need" to draft a wr at all.

I'll give you one thing... I don't like people pigeonholing ourselves to WR. I don't want an OL in round 1. But you take BPA even if you have options at the position already. WR, TE, Safety, CB, DE/OLB, DE, NT... these are picks I would gladly take before taking an OL. And yes, for each, I'd rather a boom/bust guy than a safe middling pick.

Fisher has a good chance to improve quite a bit
Allen will be a big upgrade over either Harris or McGlynn
Kush will probably be fine as a Center
Fulton turned out to be not a disaster last year and should improve this year
You can sign a cheap stopgap like Wisnewski

You still have 10 picks in later rounds to land multiple OL, which I think they should do regardless. That gets you a not great but much improved OL, with lots of young options to make this even better

I will NOT be one bit happy if 2 of Dorsey/Reid's 3 first round picks end up being OL.

We don't need to spend the #18 pick on a right tackle or left guard. We can find an elite playmaker there and get just as good of a lineman in the 2nd or 3rd.

Resources matter.

I'm fascinated by how accountable this signing makes Alex Smith. If Maclin doesn't clear 1,000 yards, there are no more excuses for Alex.
