I agree in that I don't think there was a problem with last year's team, at least not above and beyond the small issues all teams deal with. It's a bit revisionist of some people to say there was a "problem."

I think KU fans are comparing last year to this year and seeing how smooth this year's team is offensively and applying it to last year. Self always preaches playing offense through the post first. Last year that meant going through Cole. For as great a defender Cole was he had a completely different skill set offensively from the twins. This year we have two guys who have great chemistry who are essentially interchangeable and that creates a very different look in my opinion.

Defensively the difference is obvious. Xavier was a pretty good on ball defender and Cole was once in a generation dominant in the paint.

I like how after the first two games people were ready to anoint Selby as a savior and how much better he was over disappointing Xavier Henry (they honestly think that...a freshman who averaged 13.5 ppg was disappointing ). Over on the Phog I told people to be cautious and remember that Xavier started as a world beater too and leveled off. They were saying how much better he was than Xavier. Hmm...not quite the case. I still think Selby is going to get it together towards the end of the season and obviously he appears uncomfortable playing through his injury but Xavier Henry would have put up 17 PPG this year had he stayed.

I was pretty damn cautious about selby too. What I did say is I liked his intensity, which I thought was lacking in X.

Henry was damn good for his team last year as a true freshman. He was most impressive defensively.

I'll be interested to see whether NBA teams even want Selby in the 1st round after this disappointing season. Considering there may not even be a season, it's probably in his best interest to stay.

BYU is 9-1 against teams in the top 50 in RPI this season, so I'm not surprised. They've beaten a lot of good teams.
