It's no doubt a different game than 1990. The Spurs had the best power forward to ever play the game of basketball though, save maybe Karl Malone. They also had Boris Diaw tearing it up on the offensive end. If Anthony Davis becomes the player we think he can be, they will be tough to stop.

People say the same thing about the college game and look who made the Final Four... Kentucky, Wisconsin, Duke... all teams with superior big guys other teams simply couldn't defend. I don't think that will ever change THAT much because you can make adjustments to defend the three better. You can't really guard a 7 footer who is dominating you down low.

LeBron backed those too like all the others. In fact, they obviously never would have traded for a headcase like JR without LeBron's blessing.

Not this year. Lol at the thought of a Canadian rookie being able to handle an NBA playoffs. Those guys are soft. Takes a few years.

Agreed. I really think Griffin saved the season for the Cavs. And it's a shame to think of how much better the Cavs would have been if they didn't force themselves into the Love trade.

Pick any team to ever win an nba finals.

Take off said teams 2nd and 3rd best player.

Do they still win said final?

But the price for getting Shumpert was also taking Smith to get his contract off the books for next season and, frankly, also in part to get him away from the team. Pouting about his situation and the state of the failing Knicks, Smith wasn't just not producing, he was also a pain. In reality, the Knicks had been looking for a way to get rid of him for months.

This gave the Cavs major pause, as it did many teams that passed on a litany of Smith trade pitches by the Knicks. The thought of getting two starter-quality wings nearly for free -- a few end-of-the-bench players and a second-round pick four years in the future -- was tantalizing. But with any supposed great deal there were queasy conditions. They didn't need to hire an investigative firm to compile a dossier on Smith -- his history of bad decisions, reckless behavior and wildly inconsistent play was well known to all.

So Griffin went to James.

"Get him here and I'll take care of it," James said Wednesday night, recalling the pivotal discussion.

To James, the character issues weren't just secondary, they didn't matter. He saw a chance to grab the type of shooter he loves to play with, one with a quick release and endless confidence. James has been striving to get guys like this as teammates for a decade or so now. The Cavs needed talent at that position and Smith was a talent and a contemporary whom James felt he could relate.

"I knew the man he was and I didn't really care about what everybody else thought of him," James said. "Our front office, they have the last say. ... I was definitely all for it."

What's LeBron's career record in the NBA finals? I'm sure it's great because he's so awesome.

Griffin stuck his neck out to keep Blatt. It's well believed that Blatt demanded help on defense and a rim protector. These personnel moves were a lot more about giving Blatt the pieces he asked for. I'm sure Lebron didn't disapprove. But Griffin went against LBJ in ways many GMs wouldn't.

It should probably be pointed out that Wiggins was pretty bad this year (.034 WS/48, -2.3 BPM, -0.2). Not that it was in any way surprising considering he was 19 and asked to do a ton, but he would not have helped much for the Cavs this season.

Yep. That great depth the Cavs got rid. I'm sure those players would have made the difference.

Can't doom the love trade due to bad luck though.

If he and kyrie stay healthy, I think we can all agree they have a pretty good chance of winning a title.
