What is your LEAST favorite fast food restaurant?

Simply Red's classic Hardees thread got me to thinking - where is everybody's least favorite fast food joint? Poll will be coming soon!

I tried one of those yesterday. The only problem was that the cheese was incredibly chewy. I had to be really, really careful to make sure I chewed it thoroughly before I tried to swallow each bite or it felt like I was going to choke to death because it wouldn't separate while I was eating.

On the other hand I tried the 79 cent hot dogs from BK over the holiday. Not bad. I had to ask for no relish because they only have the sweet kind, but not bad.

If you're going to eat a Sonic burger, you need to do it immediately. I once ordered there and took it home, and by that time it had started to cool and the grease had started to congeal. It was gross.

I sometimes hang out at our local mall, because it's air-conditioned and has good people-watching. After getting tired of the food options, I actually went to Wetzel Pretzel, which I've ignored for a decade because I don't like pretzels very much.

My positive surprise was that they have a frozen lemonade that's really good. And when you're hanging out at the mall, you can nurse a frozen lemonade for quite a while to ensure that the security guards don't give you the evil eye.

I went back a second time to get a lemonade later, and noticed that they sell pizza bites. So I bought some. I was disappointed that they just pulled a cup of them out from under a heat lamp, and my expectations were low, but they were all right. They were a bit of cheese with a big thick chewy crust, and that kind of works for me. I don't envision taking my wife there for our anniversary or anything, though.

I think there are several things that contribute:

- Indoor malls are often seen as dangerous because teenagers hang out there and drive away the paying (older) patrons.

- Indoor malls are generic with fluorescent lights and cranked up A/C, while modern outdoor malls look and feel more like small communities. They also often combine retail stores with restaurants (not a food court) and living space.

- Department stores that used to anchor indoor malls have gone online. Outdoor malls are less in need of anchor tenants.

- People would rather drive up to the specific store instead of going into a giant building to find what they need.

the last item is the #1 driver for the departure from indoor malls to strip malls and outdoor malls.

They completely changed how their food is prepared starting in the late 80's/ early 90's and they just kept going in that direction. That's why it's shit now.

I love our local mall. They have nice lounge areas, and I'll go there with my laptop, grab lunch, and hang out for a few hours doing work or whatever. It's air conditioned, has plug-ins near the chairs, and there's great peoplewatching.

My mall may be a bit of an exception, though. It was designed as an upscale mall, with anchor tenants like Nieman Marcus and Saks. They openly didn't bring in stores to attract teens, so it was a very sedate and pleasant place. (No offense, teens.)

Interestingly, though, a big new mall opened in the suburbs about ten years ago, and my mall panicked. They tried to become "kid friendly", and they put in some teen-specific stores and added a child play area that has rendered one end of the mall a shrilly screaming chamber of horrors.

In the past couple of years, though, they've been reversing course. They've been going back upscale, and now they even charge for parking to keep the riffraff out. I walk there, though, so they can't ditch me. I like the more upscale version, and I generally go hang out there at least a couple of times a month. I just stay far away from that horrific child play area.
