No, but it's the only thing that can be done. What would make you feel better? Force BP into bankruptcy? Jail all of their CEO's? Would that "make up for everything"?

Sorry I have been remiss in responding...OK, here is a link explaining that the statistics you have presented are a simple tally of the dead animals (primarily the mammals) that washed ashore, conveniently excluding the vast majority that died and sank to the bottom of the Gulf. Also, your stats carry no mention whatsoever of the crustacean mortality and decimation of the entire shrimping industry. Anyway, here is the first link of about half a dozen, which I'll try and get posted over the next few days...

Also, in regard to the number of birds killed in your statistics, here is a link comparing the bird mortality as a result of the Exxon Valdez spill, which was much, much smaller, with the number (so far) with the BP spill. The question is: how can the Valdez spill, in an area with few estuaries, actually have killed more birds than the BP spill, which was much larger and affected a coastline with hundreds of estuaries containing bird sanctuaries, some of which still haven't been cleaned yet? It's qualitative, admittedly, but definitely raises questions.
http://www.adn.com/evos/stories/EV223.html And BTW, since I last posted back in April, a dredging platform in Perdido Pass, less than two miles from my house, dredging sand from the channel dumped by Hurricane Ivan, hit a huge tar mat. This is one of the largest tourist spots in the area, and now, at times, smells like a truck stop. So much for the "pristine beaches" TV ads......

http://news.discovery.com/animals/an...estimated.html The latest numbers are: 6,104 dead birds, 609 dead sea turtles and 100 dead mammals, including dolphins. The tallies include counts for five states: Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

I hope this link comes up, but this is from Grand Isle...today...that's one thing I just don't understand when you post stats like you did....as if it's the final tally...this is ongoing, and will probably get worse...
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...0397934&type=3 This is from someone who has taken on the task of getting out to places that are still being ravaged by the spill. Also, there is a group of pilots who dedicate themselves to keeping vigilance over the Macondo site...they just took some photos of a new oil sheen that appeared last Friday over the site.
