Geno Smith vs Alex Smith - It's on.

It's on now. Geno Smith is probably going to be starting for the Jets this season.

Alex Smith will be the Chiefs QB for the forseeable future. If he's a success, we'll probably get five good years out of him.

So who's gonna win more NFL games over that time period?

Put your ten pounders on the table and make a vote

Alex: 11 wins
Geno: 8 wins

Trent Green only had 24 NFL starts before the Chiefs traded for him so there was room for growth, especially on a team void of talent on both sides of the ball. Alex Smith just is what he is and that's an avg QB.
Alex Smith the last few years has been if nothing else a WINNER. Higher winning % then just about everyone.

Isn't wins what counts

Hell they would have gone to the superbowl if they had a kick returner who could catch the ball.

the nerve of using the RB...if only it could be the center and the QB..THEN those game winning drives would have merit.

What you say is true.. but how long was Alex left alone in a scheme over his career? 2 years... well, 1.5 really.

When a QB starts a new scheme with a perceived strong defense and STs... it makes sense that the offense will walk before the run. You leave everything roughly the same going into yr 2, and then you can toy around with more aggression... yr 3... more aggression and interesting wrinkles added... and so on.

Like it or hate it... Alex really makes a lot of sense for the Chiefs to evolve that new offense. Now whether Alex takes the pass game to the next level needed? Hey, that's fair to guess on... but not fair to condemn the chances of.

Yes but there's also Smith who has had to make plays on those drives like the long strike to Avery last game Charles gets credit to but Smith also gets credit he has done his fair share on those drives as well It's a team game every one pitches in on those drives

This is actually false.

Against Dallas, when they jumped up to a 14-13 lead in the 3rd Q, the drive that led us back...

1st and 10 at KC 20 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to D.Bowe to KC 29 for 9 yards (B.Carr).
2nd and 1 at KC 29 J.Charles right tackle to KC 31 for 2 yards (J.Hatcher).
1st and 10 at KC 31 (No Huddle, Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short right to D.Avery.
2nd and 10 at KC 31 (No Huddle, Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to J.Charles to KC 32 for 1 yard (B.Church).
Timeout #1 by KC at 05:09.
3rd and 9 at KC 32 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass deep right to D.Avery to DAL 37 for 31 yards (W.Allen).
1st and 10 at DAL 37 (No Huddle) J.Charles right end to DAL 36 for 1 yard (J.Hatcher).
2nd and 9 at DAL 36 (No Huddle) A.Smith pass short left to J.Charles pushed ob at DAL 26 for 10 yards (B.Carter).
1st and 10 at DAL 26 (No Huddle, Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short right to D.Bowe.
2nd and 10 at DAL 26 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short middle to A.Fasano to DAL 12 for 14 yards (B.Church).
1st and 10 at DAL 12 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short middle to D.Bowe for 12 yards, TOUCHDOWN. KC-A.Fasano was injured during the play.

That's 8 passes and 2 runs.... thoughts on that?

Now to the other game where we needed the lead back... Titans

When the Titans scored their 4th quarter TD, they led 17-13.

First drive failed with 2 passes and 3 runs.
The next TD drive that put us back on top?

1st and 10 at KC 34 A.Smith pass incomplete short left to S.McGrath.
2nd and 10 at KC 34 A.Smith pass deep left to D.Bowe ran ob at TEN 49 for 17 yards.
1st and 10 at TEN 49 J.Charles up the middle to TEN 47 for 2 yards (J.Casey).
2nd and 8 at TEN 47 A.Smith pass short right to S.McGrath to TEN 44 for 3 yards (J.McCourty).
3rd and 5 at TEN 44 (Shotgun) A.Smith scrambles right end pushed ob at TEN 42 for 2 yards (M.Fokou). PENALTY on TEN-M.Fokou, Unnecessary Roughness, 15 yards, enforced at TEN 42.
1st and 10 at TEN 27 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short left to J.Charles to TEN 18 for 9 yards (T.Campbell).
2nd and 1 at TEN 18 J.Charles left end to TEN 16 for 2 yards (G.Wilson; M.Griffin).
1st and 10 at TEN 16 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to A.Sherman to TEN 8 for 8 yards (G.Wilson; Z.Brown).
2nd and 2 at TEN 8 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short left to D.Bowe to TEN 1 for 7 yards (M.Griffin).
1st and 1 at TEN 1 A.Smith pass incomplete short right to D.Bowe. PENALTY on TEN-G.Wilson, Defensive Pass Interference, 0 yards, enforced at TEN 1 - No Play.
1st and 1 at TEN 1 J.Charles left tackle for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN.

Now that is 7 passes and 3 runs... plus another Alex run, which was a huge conversion due to penalty.

Thoughts on that?

You ready to eat your words and apologize for getting that shit wrong, Snapplez? Man up!

As others pointed out it's not taking other QB's that long.. Rivers and Cutler for example tearing it up this year.

What I think Alex makes sense as is a stop gap QB while they search for/develop that guy that can take the offense to the next level.

Rivers and Cutler are both also not getting in tune with a brand new team that also is pointed out.

If Alex doesn't improve Then I would say he's a stop gap. That's something that will depend on how the offense grows or doesn't grow

Yeah man... both mentioned QBs are doing much better than they had been prior. Good on them... though IIRC, both have been turning the ball over at critical times that cost their teams. Would you agree to that?

I get it. Flashier QBs that make big plays... but there is a con there that can really hurt a team.

And that's the key for those guys.....Limit the turnovers while still racking up yards and points.

Alex Smith does for the most part Limit the turnovers

He has got to start putting up some more points but in some ways the amount of time his type of offense runs off the clock is also something that has helped the defense. And that's going to be the type of offense that beats Peyton. Peyton can't be throwing tds while sitting on the sideline there's some use in an offense like that

It's not just about limiting turnovers... it's knowing when to take the risks and when to play it safe. I think it just as important to restrain aggression as it is to cut loose and take some shots. Some very talented QBs just can not take some of the gunslinger out of their game... and that often hurts their team at really bad times. Whereas, Alex needs to add some gunslinger at times... but it can be hard to question him when he is the #1 win % QB of the last 3 seasons.
