Eh, it kinda is.

They played some really shitty baseball the last couple of nights and yet weren't even challenged. Even game 2 of the series where Wacha refused to pitch worth a damn was pretty ugly.

They'd have been lucky to split 2-2 against most teams in that series and could've just as easily been swept out of it. The Cardinals have struggled with decent fastballs the better part of the last 2 seasons and getting to pick on 2 minor league righties and a fading veteran over the last 3 nights is really going to help them. There are a lot of slider speed bats on that team and when the hardest thrower you see in a series is Aaron Harang, you're going to knock some guys around pretty well.

That's a really really bad Phillies team. The Cardinals have also won 5 of 6 against a garbage Brewers squad. Sure, they're 15-6 right now but going 8-2 against 2 squads with a combined .289 winning percentage will do a lot to build that .700 winning percentage. They also get to miss Cole in this Pittsburgh series.

The good news is that they've done this while Heyward has looked as bad as Allen Craig ever looked last season. The bad news is that there's no way a staff anchored by two 23 yr olds sandwiched around a 36 yr old is going to hold up. Lynn's the only prime-years innings eater we have and he's just not gonna get it done on his own.

Really we need to hope that the team stays hot through the AS Break and then both Wacha and Martinez go down with minor lower body maladies that allow them to re-charge (consecutively, mind you, not concurrently). Lyons, Marco or Garcia could take on a few starts in their respective absences and they could be back to get us through a September/October charge.

As good as things look...they don't really look that good.

While true, they've done about what you'd hope they'd do playing those teams.

Doesn't hurt that Carpenter might actually be a descendant of thor

I'd much rather the Cardinals beat the piss out of bad pitching and actually waylay bad teams rather than scuffle and play down to their level, as they have so often done in the past.

Heyward is a defensive late inning replacement that can't hit

What would you have them do about the starting pitching?
