Malaysia Airlines loses contact with plane carrying 239 people

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane with 239 aboard enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The airline said in a statement early Saturday it was attempting to locate the Boeing 777 after it lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m.

China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported the plane was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, and did not make contact with Chinese air traffic controllers.

The plane is carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members. The airline said it is working with authorities to locate the plane.

Boeing said on its Twitter account it is monitoring the situation, and "our thoughts are with everyone on board."

Life insurance? I wouldn't dismiss suicide just because it would have been easier to crash in the south china sea, perhaps he had a reason to make everyone believe the plane mysteriously vanished.

edit: we've actually had that scenario before a long time ago, where an off-duty pilot who was in trouble with the airline had a huge life insurance policy, bought a ticket, and tried to overpower the crew so that he could crash the plane and make it look like an accident. That wouldn't work today because of the cockpit voice recorder in the black box. So, if you wanted to do something like this today, you'd have to make sure the black box is never found.

I mean really. Who would hijack a plane, turn off the communications, and fly hundreds of miles of course to just commit suicide? That's just. No. Wouldn't happen.

Now if it was hijacked with the intent to keep the plane, it could have crashed for multiple reasons (unintentionally).

-They flew too low to avoid radar and ****ed up. (most likely)
-Was unable to find their landing target and ran out of fuel in the process of finding a new LZ.
-Natural aviation accident over that part of the sea. After already been hijacked. (via storm, power outtage, etc)
Also that they were shot down, and whoever did it is being quiet. I guess that kind of ties into your first one.

You can probably rule out your 3rd choice. The chances of the same plane being both hijacked and suffering a crippling natural aviation incident are so low it can't even compute

Not entirely. If you think of it this way when you cut off all your systems is it completely out of the realm of possibility that they went blindly right into a big ass storm over the ocean?

Not probable but meh.. I do understand where you're coming from though.

I didn't think about the insurance thing. That's kinda out there but definitely possible.

---

Whoever said it was shot down I thought of that too. Whether it be China or India or whoever. They could have seen an unidentified craft and blew it out of the sky. Not realizing how crazy big of a mistake they made.. I've also thought about it this way. Our President doesn't know EVERYTHING that happens in a country. Whatever military could have done it could be doing everything possible to ensure their mistake didn't leak.

Who knows?

A space shuttle has insane amounts of thrust/force/speed to get off the ground and into space, but so does a plane when traveling at 40,000 feet and over 500 mph!

What if the pilot pulled the nose up and just kept going? What if that plane was so high that it just left the gravitational pull of the earth?
WTF?

Well, there were no storms in the area that night, and they didn't cut off all systems, just the transponder and some other communicator.

Also, pilots can see storms, they fly around them all the time.

I dont have any idea but just tossing this one out there. Plane was hacked into and commandeered remotely sorta like the drone taken oven in Iran. They then remotely flew it to 45000 feet killing all aboard. Then attempted to fly it into Bagram US Military base but was intercepted and shot down.

While the search was going on in the S. China Sea the US was cleaning up the mess. Just a wild hair idea have no idea if its even possible.

Wouldn't the pilot and copilot have to conspire together to keep the transponder off and cease communications? Seems unlikely. They both wanted to commit suicide?

I don't think so. I think they're always two-person crews these days.
