Not just done with KC,done with the NFL

Yet another thread and I even went as far tonight that I gave away a very nice Chiefs coat and chiefs stocking cap at the party I was at.Also quit my fantasy football league and am renouncing the NFL as a whole.

Pro football is nothing more than pro wrestling only the stage is 50,000 times larger and the NFL just might get their Luck/Manning rematch and maybe even their Manning/Brady rematch.I ****ing hate to think this shit is rigged but at 51 I've seen much to much over the years and am done being made a fool of.

Oh and lastly this years pro bowl will be a fantasy draft, really, wake the **** up people we're watching another form of Hollywood where some of the actors are paid millions and some are just bit players.

And you're right, it's the calls, and the no-calls where the "assist" comes.
It's always seemed to me that when there's a controversial call, when in doubt, go with the team that's behind.

I don't think the NFL wants to force winners but I think the refs seem to want to keep games close and competitive.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I am tired of the NFL. Something that is a "hobby" should bring you pleasure not constant anger. The way this game went down in typical train-wreck form had me asking myself, do I really want to invest this much energy and time into this anymore?

Sure I will still care, but I don't think I will skip church or go out of my way to watch games or check scores to arrive at the same conclusion in January every year.

I will not watch any more NFL this year for certain. Past that lol time will tell!

Haven't read the whole thread....Joe (Nzoner): have you backed off of this?

I was pretty bitter on Saturday, and "all 'in'" on the notion of the NFL is rigged. I'm now more like there is probably some indirect pressure put on officials giving deference and wiggle room for certain players and franchise's--especially when there is a compelling story-line in a given season. If the AFC Championship ends up Luck vs. Manning, that will be additional evidence of it, in my mind.

I'm now increasingly open to some sort of rigged aspects to the game, but I've begun to cool my jets some. Just wonderin' where you are at on it, Joe...

If the AFC Championship ends up being the team with the best record in the league and the best QB in the league vs. a very good team with a very good QB, it is evidence of a fix? C'mon, man....

A very good QB, for a good team....yeah. To make that unbelievable comeback in a game like the one Saturday, when literally if any ONE of 5-6 plays would have kept Indy at home instead of us? In a close game, maybe; not in a game where one team had dominated for over half the game...and suddenly, every bounce and every meaningful subjective call goes in their favor. Not gonna accept that; at least not at this point.

To me, at this point, that is what seems to be happening. I doubt they are "directed," but I'm increasingly convinced that some mea culpa from a retired official will fill us in on "how." Incentives and rewards for those who comply, and crap assignments and ostracizing would be an effective way with many referee types...who may love the game, but many also seem a bit more than star-struck and craving the stage types--for whom such tactics would work. Maybe it's not; but it's beginning to look increasingly likely IMHO.

This is basically where I'm at right now.

But I'm loving the conversation. Both sides have done a hell of job pulling me to their team.

Other than the unnecessary name calling, this has been a really fun thread.

That is where everybody is, but too many people think without an admission, the subtle favoritism thing is just as out-of-line as the purely rigged game.

These are the same people who thought the girl who gave them the gentle shot int he arm was trying to fight instead of trying to say she liked them. Perhaps a bad analogy, but there are subtle things out there, and I can guarantee you that two small market towns with few superstars in the game is NOT what the NFL wants to see come SB Sunday! And if they have to wink-wink at the officials to make sure that they actively play in that gray area, they will. SO they might be OK with a small market team, but it better have a Favre in it to keep them happy.

And it's never "one" thing, it's a tone across many things. So again, subtle persuasion and adjustments... When you have player parity, and the NFL does (at least over the likes of baseball), you have a lot of opportunity...

Exactly! The non calls can be the absolute worst and I argued that way back in this thread. Cant trace them or keep stats for them either. It's a totally "clean" way to "assist" without really doing anything and that's the brilliance of it!

Losing to the Ravens was the worst game Ive experienced as a Broncos fan since losing to the Jaguars in 1996. They also lost to the Pats up by 24 at halftime and beat the Chargers down 24 at halftime last year. S happens, you get up an move on just like you do when you're playing the game.

If losing didn't suck as much as it does, winning wouldn't feel so good.

Nope, haven't listened to sports radio and will not be watching this weekend as I'll be doing something productive and working on my 2014 firework order.

Anyone who has visited my gameroom knows how much I love the NFL,sadly the day has come when during the play-offs and Super Bowl the room will be dark and void of guests,I'm sick and ****ing tired of being made a fool of and can find better things to do with my time.

Understand your anguish, man; I was there last weekend. The fog has lifted a bit for me, but I completely respect what you are saying. Even if it's 'only' a "subtle favoritism thing is just as out-of-line as the purely rigged game," that is complete and utter B.S. to the tenets of sportsmanship. I think the whole "replay" system has forced them to be more careful, and nefarious, about it....but the lack of statistics to track the questionable/subjective calls and their correlation to game outcomes gives them culpable deniability in all this.

It's guys like you and Joe...who the NFL ought to be really concerned about. They are gambling that all the profits from casual fans who are sucked in by the whole glitz and glamour of the game OUTWEIGH the loss of die-hard fans who are beginning to wonder about: if where there is smoke....there very likely is a real fire.
