NFL says PI agianst the Chargers was wrong
First off...I will say "No shit".
Second...it's convenient for them to say it now. It kept the Chargers/Chiefs battle for the AFCW title interesting until the end. *cough* ratings... Third...**** you Chargers NFL essentially admits making a mistake that aided Chargers in win over Chiefs Earlier this month, NFL.com writer Adam Rank said the Chargers are the clear favorite in the AFC West, even though the Chiefs have won the division three straight seasons. Rank said Chargers fans don’t need to worry about this Chiefs in the upcoming season in part because LA won 22-21 at Arrowhead Stadium last December. But at the NFL Media Summit, the NFL essentially admitted it made a huge mistake that helped the Chargers win that game. Let’s turn the clock back to that game on Dec. 13. The Chiefs led 21-14, but the Chargers had the ball at the Kansas City 10-yard line with 13 seconds to play. It was third down and Los Angeles was out of timeouts when quarterback Philip Rivers threw a pass to Mike Williams that fell incomplete in the end zone. A flag was thrown and pass interference was called giving the Chargers the ball at the 1-yard line with 8 seconds to play. Rivers threw a TD pass to Williams, converted a two-point try* and Los Angeles won. *That was maybe the worst defensive play for the Chiefs in 2018 But Alberto Riveron, the NFL’s Senior Vice President of Officiating, used that play Tuesday as a way to explain the new pass-interference review rule. And he showed the officials got it wrong last December. Michael Girardi of the NFL Network shared a clip of the play and said Riveron explained that a review would have changed the call to offensive pass interference. At NFL Media Summit, #NFL SVP of Officiating Al Riveron is showing us the new OPI/DPI review rules. Week 15 between #Chiefs/#Chargers. DPI is called. Automatic review under 2 minutes. This play would be offset. Mike Williams guilty of OPI, negating Fuller's DPI. Down replayed. pic.twitter.com/LxNb2g07JI — Michael Giardi (@MikeGiardi) June 18, 2019 In the clip, the Chiefs’ Kendall Fuller, who was flagged for the penalty, was clearly upset with the official’s call and his teammates were saying Williams should have been penalized. That would have given the Chargers the ball at the 20 having to make a third-and-goal call with 8 seconds to play. They could have scored a touchdown, but it’s hard to argue that it wouldn’t have been a much more difficult chore. https://www.kansascity.com/sports/sp...#storylink=cpy |

There was a helmet to helmet on Rivers prior to the pass interference call that didn't get called either.
The PI for the mike williams throw to me seems like the officiating was making up for the prior missed call. But lets forget about that.... |

Did he likely not touch it? probably...but from the angles I remember i didn't think it was indisputable. of course, it's also been months since I watched the game so I'm just going off of memory. So hell, I dunno.

Yeah I don't get too concerned with referee mistakes.
You just know they're coming and for the most part and especially long term, you get just as many favourable bad calls as the opposite team. |

I think if you piece together all the angles it was pretty clear he didn't touch it. Ultimately, it didn't matter anyway -- the Chiefs picked the ball off two plays later (Edelman failed to catch it you may recall) and then scored a TD two plays after that, so you guys ended up at the same place, only like a minute later by game clock time.

True. They did miss a personal foul on us for that helmet to helmet hit. (Ford, wasn't it...?)

They kicked the Chiefs ass up and down the field. If not for some uncharacteristic Brady picks this game is a complete blowout. It opened my eyes to say the least. Oh yeah, **** Dee Ford. |

The defense cost KC that game, not the officials.
Roberta Sutton spread open his saggy, dusty vagina and offered it up to Phillip, who proceeded to penetrate Roberta with reckless abandon, stopping only after finishing in Roberta's end zone...twice. |

Anyone want to tell me...with a straight face...that this play gets reversed if it was against the Chiefs.
It was the difference between NE going home or winning...they took a game winning TD off the board. Stop the horseshit...and at the very worst is was a fumble which was too late as it already crossed the goal line. The same Patriot douchebags will say it wasn't catch then vehemently defend this as a legitimate one. Last edited by BlackOp; 06-19-2019 at 01:57 PM.. |
