Veach almost got Honey Badger AND Earl Thomas

(Yes this deserves its own thread)

God this would have been some crazy shit. It’s too bad Baltimore panicked and massively overpaid him on a long term deal.

Can you imagine having both these guys?

I disagree, Earl Thomas is the best center-fielder in the game today.

All he did was break a bone, stick a rod in it, he's good as new.

He's broke the same bone twice.

And a 4-year deal for a player his age is just asking for trouble.

The Chiefs made the right move. Offer him a 1-year deal.

I didn’t figure you would like a 1 year 12 million dollar deal

For Thomas? Better than what he got from the Ravens.

Honestly, I wouldn't have pursued him at all for that kind of money but at least they were trying.

I am firmly in Veach's camp now. I want him to wipe the floor with Dorsey in this upcoming draft.

I would tell you what I would like to do to John Dorsey and everything he loves, but that could make things...complicated.

He had a rod inserted into his leg this time. So it should be stronger. But after the way Berry and Houston regressed, I can see why you may be hesitant to sign an older player to a 4 year contract. Time will tell.

Truth be told, I've always been a huge Earl Thomas fan. Capable center fielders are very rare in the NFL. You need range and instincts and Earl Thomas has them both.

Yeah, I love Earl Thomas. But after the year we just went through with Berry, no way on a 4-year deal.

Exactly. A safety who's missed significant time the last two seasons due to injury... Am I talking about Thomas or Berry?

Spoiler!

Thomas joined The Rich Eisen Show on Thursday, and Eisen asked him about the free agency process.

“I really thought I was going to go to Kansas City,” Thomas said. “I had committed there on a one-year deal worth like $12 million, and the next morning I woke up, my agents called me and told me I had a better offer with the Ravens, so I definitely took that offer real quick.”

Thomas told Eisen he had no meetings with Baltimore before the contract offer.

“I actually got off the phone with Andy Reid the night before the news about the Ravens,” he said. “The Chiefs actually were about to send me a private jet and me and the family were packing up, getting ready to go, get on the jet, go to Kansas City and I woke up the next morning and my agents told me that Baltimore really wanted me and they offered me a mega deal, and I took that.”

Thomas said the first thing that came to his mind was having to break the commitment he had made to the Chiefs.

“I didn’t want to disrespect that organization because they believed in me for that one year, and they committed to me,” he said. “But my agents told me that they would take care of it, and I just let them guys work it out. I got word back that Kansas City understood my situation and they were fine with it.”
