Which sport produces the least exciting highlights?

For the life of me, I can't understand how dunking a basketball is exciting. Congratulations on your two points. The other team will be making that deficit up in the next minute.

Oh, and **** the Spelling Bee.

Baseball.

Only like four things can happen in a baseball game that make highlights.

Every baseball highlight is "get ready for a strikeout, a homerun, a good throw from an infielder, or an outfielder chasing a ball down."

If you're lucky, somebody collides at home base.

Baseball—unless something happens that's totally outside the rules of the game. Most of what happens inside the rules is soporific.

I emphatically agree. Soccer sucks.

Also, the amount of hand/eye coordination needed to hit a golf ball and make it go where you want it to go is enough to make it a sport. It’s VERY hard to do on a consistent basis.

Whether or not something should be considered a sport is not based on difficulty. The top Starcraft players in the world (all from South Korea) have an amazing ability to play that game honed through ludicrous hours of practice where they sacrificed most of their social life, and its something you can "age out of" where if you get deep into your 30's your reflexes just arent good enough anymore, etc.

Its not a sport. I don't care how hard it is or impressive it is to watch them play, they are playing a game. (I'm fine with them calling it an esport because thats a different word with a different definition) A sport requires athletic ability with either exceptional cardiovascular output, explosive power, or both.

I think the existence of a defense should be considered as well.

I think for the most part sports absolutely REQUIRE that you must break a sweat to play them. That eliminates golf, bowling and a number of other items that -- while they MAY involve sweat, they don't have to. You literally cannot play "real" sports without breaking a sweat.

You must ALSO have an opponent who is actively engaged in a physical contest where his actions can directly and significantly affect or alter your actions. MANY athletic endeavors are to me competitions or games for THIS reason. If I can't touch you or affect what you do in any significant and direct manner, it's not a sport to me.

If the winner is determined via any method of "voting" (e.g. Olympic ice skating), then it's not a sport.

If your "competition" is really yourself, or a clock, then that too is not a sport. It's a race or competition, but not a sport.

So I'm pretty tight on my definition. Sprinting, hurdles, darts, bowling, Olympic diving, swimming, marathoners, golf -- not "sports", in my mind.

Agreed with all of this except that part. Boxing and MMA are most definitely sports even though many times the outcomes are determined by "voting".

You're right. I should have included fighters. Watching Justin Wong play against any American and "Wong Factor" win with 1% of his health bar is exciting and The '17 Capcom Cup finals (MenaRD v Tokido) was like one giant highlight.

RL is alright. The stuff the top 1% pull doesn't give the same spike of adrenaline that shooters do but I can see how some folks would feel that intensity.
