Somebody hit me with a pair of shoes today.

I was walking through the downtown park where a lot of reefer addicts hang out today, coming back to my office from a meeting. As I was walking, all of a sudden I saw incoming when it was too late to avoid it, and a pair of high tops thunked hard into my ribs.

One of the reefer addicts apologized profusely. He was throwing them at someone and accidentally hit me. I stared at him for a second and kept walking.

That was probably the most notable part of my day.

I also saw a 3D printer for the first time today, which was kind of cool. That's a different thing than the shoe thing.

3D printers , man those things are cool. Custom milling has really made its way to dentistry. Some really cool shit can be done.

You can take a cone beam CT scan on a pt that say, has no teeth, digitally design where you want to place implants for a full arch screw retained prosthesis, mill a custom guide so you know exactly where to place your implants, mill the hybrid denture, screw it all in in one day.

Crazy shit

I have a full boat workshop underneath my garage for woodworking and some general handyman shit. Table saws, drill presses, flatbed joiners, planers, router tables, an integrated overhead dust collection system...all kinds of fun (and frustratingly expensive) shit.

In 10 years it will be obsolete because you can !@#$ing print a bookshelf in whatever weird rainbow colors and exotic shapes you can find a template on the interwebs for.

So much for learning a practical hobby...

I can't show you an actual picture because I'm worried that a child might accidentally see it. But it looked something like this.

They're not cheap, but I could save money doing my own dental work and woodworking.

Are you familiar with them? What should a person look for in a 3D printer?

This link is a good stating place. Also, getting the printer perfectly balanced is key so ask about the balancing methods for various printers to see which is best/easiest.

I'll check it out.

The library guy said that he uses this site for designs. Lots of stuff is already designed, so you can just download it to your printer and manufacture it.

You can make your own Venus de Milo, for example:
