Has anybody mentioned this from the Redskins game?

That despite K-pass being active for the game, the Chiefs trotted out Terrance Smith at OLB to spell Zombo?

I'm telling you, we've got to get this rookie settled in at DL and stop trying to make the OLB experiment work.

He impressed me in preseason. Seth Keysor did a great breakdown of him and I agree that he looked better at OLB than DL.

He is a significantly better run defender than Dee Ford and he was getting bend on the edge, which is surprising for a guy that tall, but hey Julius Peppers did it as an OLB in GB and he's the same height.

People really underrate his take off speed. His first 5 yards are explosive and his arms are about as long as any players in the league which helps him in run defense and getting OL hands off him.

IMO this is insurance. Tamba is most likely gone next year and Dee Ford will likely command a ton of money, which I'm not sure Veach is willing to give for a player as inconsistent as Ford has been.

My gut feeling is that they view him as some sort of hybrid DL that can play in space. Having a DE that has the ability to also play OLB would make for some wicked coverage and pressure schemes.

Im not so certain that they plan on playing him strictly at OLB.

Yeah I get it, he's really athletic and all.

But I'm just not a fan of a 2nd round pick with that much learning to do

It took a while and some squinting to see what we were doing with the K-Pass pick but I think that was a time that Dorsey let his scout hat run too far out in front of his GM hat. He saw the tools that give scouts a semi but didn't dial that back and recognize that there was a real chance that this was a 3 year project and his team needed the help now.

Not a great pick, IMO.
In Dorsey's presser talking about Tanoh, he brought up Jordan Willis and said he was texting him about different things before the draft. I think it was pretty clear that Willis was high on the board and in discussion for the pick, but the coaches and scouts obviously wanted Tanoh more.

Dorsey also said that he could see Tanoh playing 3 tech like Justin Tuck. In the end, I think what won the staff over for Tanoh was his measurables, athleticism and position versatility to play almost anywhere on the front line. In camp we played him at DE, NT and OLB. Guy was dropping in coverage.

My best guess would be that Bob Sutton likes the matchups with this kid. I think he is a great fit for the 3 man pass rushes we've been doing. Gotta figure a guy that strong with 35 inch arms and explosion lined up with Chris Jones and Justin Houston will command double teams at some point and eventually put some pressure on the QB.

This.

Zombo might be a great guy in the locker room and a special teams monster but he's an ass LB.

ASS...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

K-pass played two defensive snaps against the Texans.

I only saw one of them -- he dropped, and got lost in coverage. Fortunately Watson overthrew the TE he was supposed to be covering.

Guy is just a HUGE project.

http://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2017/...es-to-step-in/

KPL played 21 snaps, or 33% of the defensive snaps while Ragland had 10 snaps, or 16% of the defensive snaps.

I wonder why Ragland was pulled early?

I figured his conditioning isn't up to par yet because I didn't see or hear of an injury.

We were talking about the skins game, where iirc, KPL was inactive

Yes.

In fact I think he was a spy on the big Watson run in the 4th where he went after him...

Really?

We drafted Ford when Hali was still playing well and Houston was an all pro.

If anything Dorsey was fascinated with pass rushers (K pass included) and guys that could play more than one position.

He drafted HB/WR hybrids, DE/OLB hybrids, ILB/OLB hybrids.

Then we drafted 328 ILB's two years ago.

You can't seriously argue Dorsey didn't value the depth at LB...
