Have a 05 double cab, 4.7. 183K. The truck is solid. Only weak point is break calipers. Replaced water pump and timing because of mileage, never needed anything else. Toyota makes a really, really good truck.

Carfax should show number of owners. I prefer private party sales because you know exactly who owned it before, things can get murky when you buy from a dealer. I bought my 02 Grand Cherokee from a retired older guy who bought it new, it was immaculate and he had an inch thick folder of all the service records. I've had it for 4 years and have only had to do a front brake overhaul and oil changes, it now has 170k on it and I'd drive it anywhere.

It's a damn nice feeling. Only reason I spent what I did this time is because I wanted to get one that hadn't already started rusting. It's almost impossible to find a 10 year old truck in the midwest without a fair amount of rust on it.

Yep, my MO is to have a savings account going so that I can pay cash for either a car repair if needed, or just to go ahead and buy a new, used, car. I either trade my old vehicle in, or sell it for cash after I have already bought my new vehicle.

It's also nice to not have to deal with the slimy F&I guys if you do buy from a dealership. Just write a check, sign some shit and drive home.

What years did they payout due to the rusty frames?

Toyota built a reputation on reliability, and most of their vehicles live up to it.

I have a 2001 LTD 2WD with 360,000 on it, replaced the radiator and fan clutch. Bought it new and its best money I ever spent. I drove the first 175,000 of those miles pulling a trailer making 40 stops a day working on swimming pools. I will say its the worst in the snow, I buy 8 bags of concrete to throw in the back. Good luck, I hope this helps.
