2008 Chevy Uplander I love my element. Even with 188k miles, I'll drive it until it falls apart and then find another used one to buy.

Well up until last February when I replaced my truck, I had never owned a vehicle that was less than 10 years old.

Until last march, I had an '08 VW Rabbit that I owned since '09.
in March I got a '10 Jetta for $6700 with 80k miles. hell, even my Street Glide is an '09. as I've gotten older, I just don't see the benefit of dropping $30k+ on a car. I'd rather have the monthly payment in my bank/pocket. Granted, if one is making $100k+ a year, a 30k car payment probably aint shit, so it's all relative. But still. Just paid off my wife's '12 Xterra last week, and have already set it up to where she will have the equivelant of a payment + $100/mo put directly into savings with her direct deposit / paycheck automatically.

2013 Dodge Journey 2005 Ford 500 (from mom-kid 1 drives it 55,000 miles) BTW-all red cars. We usually drive new but do drive cars for a long time. Too bad the poll cannot have multiple options.

Ah kids.
I don't buy the survey saying avg car age was 3 in 1996. No way. No way did Americans turn over cars that rapidly. All the good old boys with trucks across America held them for years and years. Rural old dudes? 20 years on their tricks. |

2015, wife's is 2014. Both have about 40k on them, bought both cash and I expect them to last a long time. Cars sure are better made today than the 1980s junk I started on.

FYI - I don't finance cars. For whatever reason, financing cars just makes me sick to my stomach. I get why people do it, I just hate doing it.
I generally keep our cars about ~8-10 years. My oldest Son drives the Jeep. That car will get him through College, and then he's on his own. My youngest Son and I share the pickup. It's my favorite car by far. Depending upon where he goes to College, he may or may not have that vehicle to take with him.
