Chiefs' draft needs next year

The Chiefs have made great strides in recent years, acquiring significant talent that will never be allowed to play in a Super Bowl. In order to continue losing close playoff games against the teams that always go to the Super Bowl, they'll need to continue drafting well.

What are your top three areas of priority in the draft? Assuming equal talent among all prospects, what are the areas that would draw your first three rounds of picks?

Poll to follow, unless the referees force me to post it on some Steelers forum.

The defense isn't the problem.

It's offensive scoring.

MOAR POINTS PLEASE.
This is exactly what I was thinking while I watched the game last night. If we had a legitimate #1 RB and/or WR, we win that game. Once Kelce and Hill were taken out of the equation, our weakness at RB and WR became glaring. It's time to move on from Maclin, and Ware should be a #2.

Our OL was getting killed yesterday. I don't even know what to do about that at this point. Who do we upgrade? It seems like the problem is more in the interior than exterior.

I was tempted to go WR or DE, but we got Hill and Jones so I think there are other priorities.

Oh, and RB is a need, too, assuming that Jamaal doesn't emerge running from the forest like that Willem Defoe guy in Platoon.
Guard is definitely a need, but since we could only pick 3 my choices are

QB
RB
ILB

God bless hard charging Spencer Ware, but I've come to the conclusion that he doesnt quite rise to the level we need here

The offseason and draft has to be defense, defense, defense.

We should have learned by now that offensive weapons don't make the offense better. We added a superstar at WR and an OT, and **** if I see much difference between last night's offense and last year's. Our offense has no idea how to take advantage of better offensive players.

QB in the first and consider a trade up. The rest of our draft has got to be devoted to improving our back 7. ILBs and Safeties primarily. All of those positions we should be looking at starters. Sorenson and Parker are good enough. But we're at a point where we have to understand that our defense needs to carry this team.

The problem with this strategy is that we'll need offensive players in place prior to drafting the QBotf, unless you want to Irsay it up and throw a young bull to the wolves.

IMO the best thing this team could do this offseason is get the running game back.

It would drastically help this team and any QB behind center.

What's going to be available when we draft? Or just general needs?

That said:

1. QB

2. ILB

3. DE/pass rusher

4. G

I haven't seen it mentioned specifically but we need almost a complete re-tooling of the front 7. They're absolute ass against the run and struggle to generate a pass rush against competent OLs.

Our supporting cast on offense is more than enough for a young gun to work with. Especially if we build an outstanding defense where we don't have to ask a QB to do too much early on. We can continue to search for good enough starters in the late rounds and scrap pile to fill our need at RB and OL. And I don't have an issue at all with a young guy sitting for a year or 2 on the bench behind Alex Smith, much as Alex critics hate that idea.

Generally I'd agree but I don't want to take any chances with our shiny new toy which we will have waited decades for..

I want some Dallas Cowboys offensive situation type of shit.

That's an exaggeration as I don't want multiple 1st rounders invested in OL but I'm thinking guards from rounds 3-5, a RB from 2-5, and hopefully another receiver somewhere from the 2-4th rounds. Obviously go BPA but ideally it would work out like that.

I think OL and RB become much more important if we start a young QB. Defensive powerhouses are much harder to build.

Biggest upgrade you could make that's not QB is a nasty ILB with a mean streak. This is a soft team and a soft defense. It needs an anchor, a rock in the middle.

This is where you spend your 2017 first round pick with the exception of QB.

The rest go to O-Line.

We need a LOT on offense. The offensive line is an obvious weak point. Ware is solid but we could definitely use an upgrade there. We could use a another legitimate threat at wide out. And, of course, the need for a franchise QB.

On defense, we could shore up the d-line and we definitely need help at ILB. We do very well against the pass, but we seriously need to fix the run defense. If the opposing team has a good o line we can't stop the run for shit.

Realistically, I expect our first round pick this draft to be used on the d-line/front 7, preferably ILB. This QB draft isn't particularly strong, although it seems to be a pretty strong RB class, so I wouldn't mind using our first there. I do like the idea of Mahomes, question is where would he end up going. I would scoop him up in round 2/3 if he were available without even blinking.

In order, for THIS draft:

ILB
QB
RB
G/LT
DE
WR

The Chiefs are not far away from having a defensive powerhouse. Once all our players are healthy and if we commit this offseason to improving our already pretty good back 7 (apart from ILB, which needs life support), we're close to there.

Any additions to the OL and RB are cherries on the top. I still believe we can do that in the late rounds and we've done just fine. We found Ware off the scrap pile and he's solid. And the OL will be much better once Ehringer is back.
