I was walking to work today and it was really cold in Denver. I have a nice pair of gloves that is relatively thin but quite warm, and I was studying them as I walked. I have no idea how long I've had them, but I decided that I had received them as a gift.
I've got probably half a dozen pairs of gloves (2 for running, 3 that I keep in coat pockets, and 1 pair of astronaut gloves that I keep in the closet for really cold days), and of those I've only purchased one pair. It was a $3 pair of those cloth work gloves that I got at a truck stop because I was about to run a race that was much colder than expected, and I had no gloves.
I wonder, though, how common it is to buy one's own gloves. I have a theory that it may be the item that is most likely to be received as a gift instead of purchased.
Poll coming as soon as I can get my gloves off. For the purposes of the poll,
- consider the pair of gloves you most recently wore
- include only gloves that you own personally (e.g., not your latex gloves that you use when conducting brain surgery), and
- include only cold-weather gloves as opposed to dishwashing latex gloves or sanitary gloves that you use to handle your collection of Precious Moments figurines.
