Dwight Freeney

This board is slooooow....

Would you sign at a vet minimum to serve as depth until Houston gets back?

He is begging for work and says he will go anywhere...

Sutton has got to do a good job of rotating bodies up front.

Rotate the 4 beasts in the middle (Poe, Bailey, Howard, Jones) series to series, down to down.

Rotate your edge rushers often, especially early in the year. Even if Houston is back week 1, he shouldn't be handed a full work load, as we will need him at full go for almost every snap come playoff time. Hali, Ford and whoever else shows pass rush ability need to get reps on the other side and for Houston early in the year.

If that group is as fresh as they can be come January, it could really make all the difference.

At best, the Chiefs get another situational pass rusher that still a little left in the tank, as evidenced by 8 sacks in 11 games last year.

With a Vet Min contract, he won't even count against the cap since only the Top 51 are counted until September.
That's about how I feel about it.

Wasn't Jonathan Massaquoi signed to add a veteran presence to the OLB position and play rotational snaps as needed?

I'm hoping more like Husain Abdullah part 2 in that he somehow turns into a productive sign for us.

The difference is that Abdullah was an effective player before his concussion, which led him to skip a season and travel to Mecca.

Massaquoi has bounced around and has only 6 career sacks in 4 seasons.

I'm not saying that he couldn't have a breakthrough but I don't expect it.

8 sacks in 11 games is impressive in my book, those numbers kinda shocked me for this geezer... he obviously has something left and is passionate enough about football to sign for peanuts just to keep playing

Choose his spots well and he can still get it done, I can see no possible negatives here

Make it so, Dorsey

Dwight Freeney Open to Arizona Cardinals Return Provided it Happens Quickly

36-year-old veteran pass rusher Dwight Freeney isn’t quite ready to step away from the NFL and is open to an Arizona Cardinals return, but above all else, he’d like it to happen quickly.

Appearing on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Thursday, Freeney said while his body appreciates the downtime, his mind certainly does not. And after dealing with the career uncertainty a season ago, he’d like to be signed early enough to participate in training camp.
RELATED STORY: 30 Greatest Defenders of All-Time

“I know my body loved it, but the anxiety mentally wasn’t good,” Freeny said on ESPN. “So, hopefully, I can get signed before that.”

In a perfect world, Freeney says he’s reunite with the Arizona Cardinals, but that desire won’t preclude him from latching on elsewhere. With only a little gas left in the tank, it’s going to be first come, first serve for the veteran with an emphasis on winning.

“Arizona would be a great team. Obviously, I have some ties there,” said Freeney, who is currently in Arizona. “But if it doesn’t work out here, it could be anywhere. It just depends. It has to be a winning team. I’m used to winning. It’s not great to be a part of a losing organization.”

Despite his age and signing late last season, the seven-time Pro Bowler proved he could still be used as a quality situational pass rusher. He recorded a team-high eight sacks in only 11 games for the Cardinals in 2015, finishing the season as Pro Football Focus’ sixth-ranked 3-4 outside linebacker.

If you love your job and are still capable of performing at a reasonably high level, why would you retire?
