Do you own things by choice that are a hassle?

I'm talking about things where a newer or easier product is available, but you prefer a product that is more of a pain for some reason. Examples could include (but are not limited to):

owning an MG Midget even though it's not as reliable
using a straight razor when a modern razor is faster
having a long-haired pet that needs to be brushed frequently
having a red painted barn instead of a metal shed.
having a watch that needs winding

We'll leave any discussion of spouses out of this discussion.

Where are you voluntarily inefficient?

I use a charcoal grill even though it takes more effort to use than a gas grill. The flavor of the end product is so much better. I have had my razor, a Attra, since 1976 even though I know there are better razors now days. I won't give it up.

I ****ing HATED that thing. It would lock up when I would try to delete text messages.

I couldn't wait to buy a new phone so I could smash that thing.

I felt like the guys in Office Space with the copy machine the day smashed that thing.

They're really mini-computers if you think about it. They can do everything these days. They're entertaining as well as functional.

And you can always go the used or lower-end models route. If you're going to get the latest iPhone, Galaxy S or Note or whatever you're going to drop $600 easily, but you could get something in the $200-300 range.

Couldn't agree more, I always tell the other guys that pretty soon their phones will do everything but make phone calls.

Yeah, when I do make the switch it'll prolly be with a low end model to get started... I'm holding out, but can see the writing on the wall.

There is an occasional urge to get a smart phone, they're pretty ****ing handy I gotta admit... watch movies, use the web, all the cool apps, and the one that makes me jealous the most is the great pictures those things take these days, you can zoom, add effects etc.

Yet there is just some weird stubborn streak going on with me that precludes getting one, it'll prolly happen one day but for right now I'm holding steady.

Kicked mine to the curb 3 years ago, I miss the $7.50 a month payment. The ease of checking email, messaging and internet is nice, my camera sucks though. Thinking about an upgrade.

Horizontal smoker. I've also used the fire box as a grill. This year I bought a Weber Genisis gas grill. Love, love, love it.

My only computer is a laptop, because I love having all my files in one place. Downside is using a small monitor instead of two large monitors like all the cool kids.

I exclusively use a laptop (and now a tablet). I haven't regularly used a mouse since 1999.

Absolutely,

1. I keep a niceset of mechanic tools. I hate working on my cars, but I do most of it anyway to save money, plus so i don't lose the skill. But it would be so much easier to just drop them off at the shop like most everybody else would do...

2. I use an Android phone and a Windows laptop, while most everyone I trust has spent the last decade trying to convince me to switch to Mac because of how much less hassle..

3. Rental property instead of simply investing in the stock market. I could lose money twice as fast with only half the hassle!?!? Oh, wait...
