Gracias. I just got the Fire box for my boys. It's a no-brainer if you want games, especially if you have Prime. Got it for $50 with the Sling discount.

Also have the Roku dongle for travel. Roku is nice in that it isn't content biased like Fire but not as robust. I hear the Fire stick is getting technology to be compatible with most in-house Wi-Fi systems so may end up heading that.

Ah, OK. I did a little digging around and apparently my Roku box is no longer supported. It won't just magically stop working, but new channels and updates won't be made for it.

Comcast ****ing sucks with their HBO Go support. They block it for Playstation too.

You have options on the FireTV though. You can get an HBO NOW subscription directly from HBO instead of through Comcast, and it will work just fine. You have to sign up for it on an Apple device with your AppleID. But after you sign up, you can then sideload the HBO Go app on the FireTV, or use PlayOn, and enter your HBO Now credentials there.

Or you could simply load KODI/XBMC/SPMC onto your FireTV, and cancel your HBO subscription and watch for free.

There's always options......

I'm not a huge anti-piracy guy (I certainly did plenty of it back in the day), but if you are hoping for a future where the cable providers aren't in charge, I personally think it's important to support the alternatives...

I have a Roku stick and love it.

Got it for free by paying 3 months of sling tv at 60 bones.

We have 3 Roku units. A Roku 1 in our BR, a 2 in my oldest daughter's, and a stick in my youngest daughter's. I actually like the stick the best because it's plugged in behind the TV that's on the wall, and the TV has a powered USB port so there's no need to plug the stick into an outlet. We do need to upgrade to the 3 in our BR though. That old thing is so slow.

Well, instead of outright buying them for 50, just prepay 60 to sling tv https://www.sling.com/devices/amazon and they send you the stick for free.

FireTV all damn day. I started with a Chromecast, and while it does serve its purpose, it has nowhere near the hardware and customization opportunities that FTV does. If most people truly understood how to unleash XBMC, the subscription landscape would be vastly different.
