KC to get new 40-story Convention Hotel
Story says 23 but that appears to be the amount built on the lower base which is 17. Some estimate it'll be 30 stories. Either way check out the pics:

Kansas City is expected to get its long-awaited downtown convention headquarters hotel by 2018.
Burke Swerdling & Associates, led by Kansas City attorney and former Visit KC board member Mike Burke, plans to develop a $300 million, 800-room hotel. Hyatt will operate the hotel, to be just south of the Downtown Loop.
Bounded by Interstate 670 to the north, 16th street to the south, Baltimore Avenue to the east and Wyandotte Street to the west, the hotel would be immediately east of the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom and adjacent to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
After losing the Kansas City mayoral election in 2011, Burke said he told Mayor Sly James: "This is something I'd like to work on. I think it's doable."
"He said, 'Go for it,'" Burke said.
The biggest hurdle was getting past the city's refusal to back bonds for the hotel, given the millions in debt repayment taxpayers have had to pick up as a result of the underperforming Kansas City Power & Light District.
