If you are on the west side of the island, snorkel before noon. Makena Beach is real nice. We enjoyed the Road to Hana. Lots of waterfalls along the way. The scenery is beautiful but, it does take all day. Leave around 8:00am if you do this. The road is very has lots of curves. Something like 600 in the 40 mile drive. You can't be in a hurry because when you get to the curvy part, you can't go over 15 mph. The food is great. We stayed at the Hyatt on the north end, right on the beach. Get the Guide to Maui off Amazon. Has all the neat stuff in it. In guide it tells you about a lava tube on the road to Hana. You have to look for it as there are no signs. It is a small opening in hill on the side of the road. If you don't like dark and tight spots, you should pass. Haleakala National Park has a volcano, if you're into that. We stayed 7 days this past November. Get the guide and look through it. It will help you decide. Enjoy.
