There are a bunch of scripted plays in the first 3.5 minutes. Then, the levels concept comes out and Alex is not going through his progressions completely before giving up on the play. Hell, he can't even be bothered to read the goddamned safeties before giving up on the play. He looks intermediate, then checkdown, then scramble. |

Look at the play at 3:56. He doesn't even give the play 3 seconds to develop before he tucks it to run. He got a good gain underneath. But with a man under cover 2 defense, the safeties both bit on the inside receiver and left both outside receivers (on go routes) in 1 on 1 coverage. I want my QB to take a shot on a there. Give your guy a chance in one on one on the outside. Maybe it was a scripted draw, but I doubt it frankly.

And that's where I just can't imagine that's what Andy Reid wants from his qb, but who knows.

I think a large part of Alex Smith's problem is not giving the play a chance to develop. The first 3.5 minutes is all pre-scripted passing plays. But the very next play even, you see him give up on the play too early. He once again, does not read the safety and one on one coverage on the outside, in the end zone. If he just steps up in the pocket and slings it to the outside shoulder, that is a TD or an incomplete pass. The pocket was set up for him and he instead gives up on the play for a one yard scramble.

He actually had decent stats in this game.
His problem is he misses about 1-3 opportunities in a lot of games for a big play. He doesn't throw enough TDs and his team gets bogged down in the redZone.

At 5:05, look how easily the defense reads him going to the checkdown. The intermediate route comes open by like 10 yards and he committed to the ****ing checkdown at 2 seconds in the pocket.

afraid of the pass rush afraid to throw an Int He usually takes the first safe option available. Better Oline will help Better WR will help Reid having a more aggressive plan with help Have no idea if all these things happen whether Smith will ever stop playing scared though. I imagine he will be less 'chicken' though.

I think he's become too gunshy in the pocket. Not necessarily that it isn't without reason, the ol was bad, but still gotta make plays

5:30, Alex Smith doesn't read the coverage or he avoids that sack. When he saw Kelce get picked up by the linebacker, he needed to know that Wilson(?) was going to be released to off coverage. That is a poor pre-snap read in combination with McGlynn totally blowing his block. He literally doesn't even look left, but just stares at the pass rush after reading Kelce.
