CP Jeep Folks

2001 XJ, won't turn over. Electric works. Took it to a shop I thought I trusted yesterday who said the starter was bad and replaced it. Picked it up and brought it home last night. Just went out to run some errands and it won't turnover, same thing, electric fine just won't start.

Any thoughts on what's wrong with it? This thing has been stolen a few times in the past, ignition maybe?

Did I totally get jobbed on replacing the starter yesterday?

www-
jeep-xj.info/HowtoNSSrebuild.htm -Sorry I can't Link.

My problem was that one of the contacts, with the springs behind it, had become lodged inside the slot. Remove the contacts slowly so the spring doesn't shoot out and get lost. The hardest part is getting the plug fed back up the firewall. Also use a flat head screw driver to pry the NSS of the transmission, by gently using the edge of the tranny for leverage.
You were gentle with your tranny? Makes sense, I guess.

It started after wiggling the shifter as well. My inlaws are all Jeep people so I'll have them look over Thanksgiving. Problem is, they already think I'm a pussy because I haven't "put a baby in their sister's belly." Small town weirdos.

Going through some issues myself, I may have a leaking head gasket. I drove home from work last night and to work this morning and was getting temperature spikes, truck was wanting to overheat (only on the highway).

Checked at lunch today and my coolant was low so I added a couple of bottles of water and drove towards home tonight with no problems. Stopped at AutoZone and topped the coolant off.

I'm getting excess moisture out of the tail pipe so I may not be out of the woods yet.

I had that issue on the safety start and put in a toggle switch. (Ford Ranger) Works well and should be hard to steal if you don't know where that toggle switch is.

This is true. Otherwise your 3 year old will take the keys to your AMC hornet, and insert into the ignition and crank while in reverse. Causin the car to repeatedly bash into the garage door from the inside.

You race motocross and your not mechanical? I raced in the 80's and if I couldn't fix it, I didn't run.

No, I don't race motocross, my inlaws do. They're all cool, would club a mother****er within an inch then help his buddy get his truck started to drive him to the ER. Their idea that not pulling out somehow makes you manlier is odd to me though. That, and the need to mix up corn in everything on the plate.

"mama, he ain't mixin' that corn up in the taters!"

Ahhh... Just wondered because there was a few models of Jeeps that were prone to the head cracking.
