Sleep apnea & CPAP?
I did a sleep study last night, turns out I have severe sleep apnea, where I stop breathing upwards of 40 times an hour and my blood oxygen dips into the 60s in deep sleep.

I have to go back to the clinic probably next week for a study with the CPAP, and just looking for any first person experiences.

If this is central apnea and not obstructive apnea all bets are off. You are a walking dead man unless you get help.
My wife says I quit breathing in my sleep and I snore very loudly. But I'm not over weight (5'11 180lbs). I think a mouthpiece may be the answer but I know if I do the sleep study they will say I need the CPAP machine and I just think my jaw is too far forward when I sleep.

I've been told I should get the study done but I am a restless sleeper. I would pull the wires out when I am turning over all the time and wouldn't get any sleep.

Heh, maybe so......

I'll just say this, I've worn a CPAP for a little over a year now. Before CPAP I was tired and drowsy all day. At times irritable and felt depressed. After CPAP, I sleep like a baby, no longer tired and drowsy and have a lot more energy. The mask takes some getting used to, and still gets irritating at times, but i won't sleep without it now.

I don't do a full mask. Only the nose, but it's whatever feels comfortable for you.

They test mouthpieces also to see if it stops the snoring. Usually its obesity thats causing the tongue to fall back and block the airway. The mouthpieces are good for that kind of apnea. Since thats not the case with you, I'd be concerned that its central apnea. You don't fool around with central apnea. You have to have the CPAP or you will die.

But maybe when you were born the trachea was a little off line and have part of the airway back to the opening more narrow than most people.

I was born with a deviated septum. I wasn't able to breathe through my nose until after my 2nd reconstructive sinus surgery in 2005 or so.

When you're a baby, you normal rest with the tongue in the roof of your mouth and breathe through your nose. That process also helps form the shape of your upper jaw.

Because of my nasal/sinus issues, the shape of my top jaw is slightly off. And because of that, I have obstructive sleep apnea.

The SomnoDent mouthpiece saved sleeping for me. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
