Earl Campbell On Helmet Rule - "I Played Football With My Whole Body"

I was waiting for Earl Campbell to speak up about the new helmet rule.

For you younger guys back in the 70's/80's Earl was one of the fiercest running backs and used his head and his whole body to run over everyone.

Earl Campbell was the true definition of the word "beast". No one wanted to tackle him.

Earl says the new rule is a joke and he would never had lasted if it was in place in his time.

"The quarterback is going to end up wearing a dress."

"Just play flag football."

Not sure how it wont get called on every single 3rd/4th and short or goal line run.

I think a short goal line run would be inside the tackle boxes.

This ****ing rule is stupid.

Campbell was an incredible blend of speed and power, playing on a team that had few other weapons.

None of these videos posted here have any of his truly impressive runs. The man would have made Chuck Norris run away in fright.

He's actually doing a little "better" these days. I saw him walking under his own power (with a cain) - but you're right - it does suck to see him hobbling around. I had the pleasure of talking to him at length short time ago at this GHCVB Banquet for Legends of Houston Athletes. Other notables there were Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Elvin Hayes, Calvin Murphey, Rudy T, Carl Lewis, Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Dan Pastorini, Warren Moon, Bum Phillips, and a few more but none had the crowd around them that Earl did. As a sign of respect - ALL the BIG TIME Athletes there stopped by to talk to Earl. He was also front and center in the pictures.

The good thing is once it becomes flag football the Chiefs sucking will have no effect on me.

The World is pussified. It's only a matter of time until we don't recognize the game.

BTW Earl Campbell was my favorite power back ever. He may have started the beast label. Unfortunately, those guys don't last long.

I met all them at the Super Bowl XXXVIII party taking pictures backstage when they had the top 38 athletes in Houston there.

Met President Bush (41) too.

Earl got there late and was in a wheelchair and I asked him if I could take his picture.

He asked me not to and thanked me when I didn't.

That's how cool Earl is.

F**k ELVIN HAYES WITH A BURNING AIDS TREE FIRE STICK!!!

That guy was my idol when I was a little kid and he snubbed me twice for an autograph when I was 14 yrs old with my dad. Broke my heart. I waited after a Nets-Bullets game and he passed me on the way out and then back again into the locker room.

SCUMBAG!!!!
