I have an old Pioneer stereo receiver downstairs. I don't even remember what model it is. I do, however, remember doing a lot of very naughty things while it was still in use. Maybe that's why I never threw it away. It's a tube amp, I know that.
It's funny how electronics have taken a turn from circuitry back to tubes. All of my guitar amps (with the exception of a Peavy practice amp) are all tube amps now. There was a time when you couldn't find one and now they're everywhere. FAX |

Mr. FAX, I think its simply because tubes just plain sound better than solid state. Period.

LOL forgot about Tigers. $4 for a single LP and $8 for a double. Also the ONLY place I'd go for concert tickets.

My dad has always had some nice equipment. He bought most of it cheap in the early 70's while stationed in the Phillipines. He has a Pioneer SX-1280 that sounds awesome.
I recently picked up a Kenwood KR 7400 for a song and am in the process of finding some speakers. Its only 63 WPC but will be more than enough for me.

If you want that warm "tube amp" sound on a solid state amp, you can add a small circuit to them courtesy of Richard Clark that emulates the tube sound.
Tube amps have a clip softer then solid states, that is why some people like their sound better. Definately not worth the stupid amount of money IMO. |

I had a Pioneer 902 back in my day, which was the early 90's. I wish I still had it. Gave it to a young man by the name of Jamie. You people may remember him.

I have a Marantz that I run a CD player and Sat. Radio through for distribution. The sound is better than my digital system.

I just picked up a Concept 12.0D. That thing should kick up a little dust.

OK, now that I have invested in the 51 pound, bone shaking war pig, what would you guys throw out there for speakers? I have a big pair of Fishers, but my other pair are a low end Kenwood set. They will get smoked the first time I hit the volume. Ideas?

Post note: I was zipping around a few pawn shops looking to get into an extra set of speakers for the man can and didn't find anything that turned my crank. On the way back to the house, I happened to look over driving past a garage sale. I saw these giant looking hogs, so I pulled over to see what the hell they were. I turned out there were a set of JBL 940's in great shape. I couldn't read the tag the guy wrote, but it looked like $125 for the pair. That's one hell of a deal, because the list on those new was $1,100.00. I asked the lady, what do you need for these and she said, "$25, but we're taking offers."
I asked, "Will you take $20 for the pair?" She said, "yes I will!" I'm surprised I didn't get a blister on the ends of my fingers reaching for my wallet! I Loaded up the giant pigs in the back of my truck, drove home, hooked them up and they sound great. I feel like I just hit the Powerball. Here is a picture of a set of JBL 940's. |
