Chiefs fans start a gofundme to "Save Our TD Song"

I'm glad to see some push back. Especially considering the terrible options that were provided as replacements.

What money? The money that would normally be royalties doesn't actually get to Glitter?

The Glitter song and chant will still be played/chanted proudly at my gameroom parties on any KC TD.

As long as you don't pay any royalties!

Tough to say. This article seems to imply that his royalties would be reduced under that circumstance since he wouldn't be the performer, but he'd still get royalties as the composer.

http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/k...on-song-082115

Quote:
The Chiefs reportedly had been asked to change versions of the song by the NFL in 2006. The performer associated with the tune has been Gary Glitter, who has faced numerous charges for sexual offenses as far back as the late 1990s.

Now, with Glitter serving time in a maximum security prison in the UK for crimes against children, Donovan said the organization felt it was time to move on.

A major factor in the decision was the ongoing belief by the American Society of Composers, Artists and Publishers, that Glitter -- real name Paul Gadd -- still must be credited as the composer.

The vice president of business affairs for the American Society of Composers, Artists and Publishers told The Kansas City Star in 2006, "If it sounds like Gary Glitter's song, we would credit Gary Glitter. From our standpoint, it makes no difference who the performer is, it's who the composer and publisher is."

Guess reading the link you provided would have been good.

I don't know about this. If the flying a banner thing gets whored out every time the fans have some beef, it will lose potency and meaning.

I just thought of a solution! Bail the song and chant. There is a song called "Seven Nation Army" and the fans can sing this "whoa oohohohohoo" part. It would be original and not at all annoying. Profit

I completely understand why the Chiefs don't want to be associated with a song and pay a child rapist for using it.

I'm all for keeping the tradition if we add one more.....a gladiator death match with axe wielding sex offenders every time the song plays.....3 pervs enter, 1 perv leaves.

That's your commercial break fan entertainment.

Sorry, but your well-sourced articles cannot refute the assertions of "many lawyers".

Seriously, I reluctantly accept that a change is coming and is probably the right thing to do, but have a feeling the Chiefs will screw it up based on the ridiculous poll they posted.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the new songs either, and I doubt any of them will really lend themselves to any level of crowd participation.

Really, I just wish that Gary Glitter wasn't a goddamn pedo.
