Awesome that Clark and co. are putting emphasis on the QB. Glad that seemed to be a big discussion in Reid's interview.
Clark wants his QB and he's made it known. Glad we have him for an owner. |

OK Cassel got 28 million guaranteed...so if that is pro-rated over the life of the contract...you're looking at a $9.2 million cap hit for both years, right?

If he got a $28M signing bonus as was speculated, his signing bonus is spread evenly over the cap, so $4.66M per year every year for the life of his contract.
So you're looking at taking a $9M cap hit this year or $4.66M per year for the next 2 years. His base salary comes off the books and the way I have it figured, his base is $7.5M this coming year and $9M in 2014 (I saw something about this on ESPN or NFLN recently, too). So you get $7.5M back but with the $9M in dead money, you actually have net $1.5M in dead money. If they cut him after March, they can get net $3M back this year and $4.5M next year. |

If they cut Cassel it will only cost the Chiefs 3.8m on the cap in 2013.

Matt Cassel (QB)-Kansas City Chiefs: It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Cassel returns to the Chiefs since Brady Quinn has replaced him. As the starter, Cassel was largely ineffective in guiding the Chiefs to a 1-4 record. He committed 14 turnovers (nine interceptions and five fumbles) in his five starts while completing just 58.5% of his passes and only throwing for five touchdowns. The 2010 Pro Bowler’s $7.75 million 2013 salary is too much for a backup quarterback. Cassel, who has a $9.825 million 2013 salary cap number, would free up $5.825 million of cap space for the Chiefs if they released him.

He doesn't have a full staff or GM yet. MC is as good as gone in due time.

Sure seems that way. Frankly just that aspect alone has been a breath of fresh air.
