I've danced this dance with Shane Carruth as far as loving indie creators and, again, I'm waiting it out...

Man, what a painful mix of intrigue and letdown. The premise was really cool, despite the clunky writing. But the further it progresses, the more it became an unfortunate comedy. The dance-off stuff reminded me of Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen doing that SNL skit where they try and synchronize each other's song and dance. Who the **** thought that would ever be a good idea. The final scene in the school lunchroom had me actually laughing, it was so goofy.

I thought it was brilliant, and I think some of you are missing the point - especially with the dancing aspect. Check out some of these fan theories and particularly note the East-Asian influences of the movement.

I get it, I just think the dances themselves were really stupid. This show was treading water for me for an entire season. The characters were crappy but just interesting enough to put up with. The dialogue ranged from average to cringeworthy but a few of the actors were able to pull it off anyway. The plots were flimsy but vague enough to be entertaining and there were intriguing points along the way. The visuals were very, very compelling though. The show looked great. So to have the primary visual of the entire series play out like a group of stereotypical modern dance artists was just too much. I mean, for ****'s sake, they could have just done this and it might have been less goofy:

On the other hand I watched Travelers on NetFlix (one season) and they only really had one dog of an episode. A team member was basically in a coma for the whole episode and it was full of dream sequence bullshit. That was a nice guilty pleasure that I would recommend over The OA. Or even Glitch. That was kind of fun but dragged in its emo moments. I'm currently going through Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. It's holding my interest.

I finished Travelers and liked all but the very end of the finale. There's cliffhangers and there's leaving an audience thinking there must be another ep in the queue somewhere.

I also just finished a show called Beyond on Freeform, which was surprisingly good. It's airing weekly on the channel starting last week, but is also available online and, at least with TWC, on demand. So you can binge all ten episodes. I didn't even realize until after it was over that the creative heads are Tim Kring and David Eick. It's a bit low budget, but I found it creative and engaging. I can't actually think of anything else I've ever watched on the former ABC Family.

Hah, the exact same thing happened to me, I actually said 'WTF?' after the finale looking for the next episode. Did you try Glitch? It has more relationship-y stuff in it and it is more like The OA than Travelers. But it has no Dance Magic! in it at least. And, like Travelers, you know they can keep going with more interesting stories.
