First FA Pickup of Off-season?

As many of you know, this kid LOVES him some Kansas City Chiefs. Hasn't had a stellar career, but could turn it around here as he's still young, 25. If not a starter, quality depth/

Shane Ray found late notice he’d be inactive “disrespectful”

The Broncos made linebacker Shane Ray and safety Su'a Cravens healthy scratches for their game against the Browns on Saturday night and neither player was thrilled by the development.

Ray said, via Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post, that he found it “disrespectful” to learn late in the week that he would be on the inactive list. Cravens said that he disagreed with head coach Vance Joseph’s explanation that the team was going with its best players.

Ray, a 2015 first-round pick, has come off the bench in 11 games for the Broncos this year. He has 10 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in what seems likely to be his final year in Denver as he’s out of contract once the year is up.

Cravens joined Denver in a trade with Washington and spent two months on injured reserve with a knee problem. The 2016 second-round pick has 18 tackles in five appearances.

While I'm not 100% against going after Earl Thomas again, it does seem like a bit of a gamble when you consider his age, and that he is coming off a serious injury

Why would we tag and trade Ford?

Imo he needs to be tagged and given a chance to earn a big contract. He’s been a demon this year and with Mahomes, guys like Ford are perfect for our defense.

If you tag him, you let him play a year then walk. Theres nothing to gain by tagging him then signing him when he's a year older.

He's had back injuries and is having a career year in a contract season.

If you aren't sure he's worth a big deal now, i'm not sure what would change next year. He's a good player and is a good pass rusher, but for what he's gonna cost, I think if you can get a high pick for him you'd do it.

Yeah, you either sign Ford long term now and hope he stays healthy and motivated, or you move on and take the 3rd round comp pick. Waiting for a second "prove it year" is how we ended up with the albatross of Houston and Berry's contracts.

Just no reason to tag him if you're gonna eventually extend him. Do it now and hope you can get some value.

I'd tag and trade him if I could.

Like I said, you could use that money and get 2 mid tier guys that could ascend and or help.

One of the real problems with this team is even the good players are 1 trick ponies.

Chris Jones and Dee Ford are abominations against the run, Dee Ford looks like he has the awareness of a reeruned monkey when he's asked to do anything other than rush the passer.

Jones is lazy and can't even be gap disciplined on run plays.

Jones is basically the same as Aaron Donald in that he's gonna shoot gaps and try and make big plays. He's not going to hold up to double teams and keeping LB's clean.

So knowing that, if you're going to invest a lot in him let him do what he's best at and earn the money. So get out of a system that asks him to absorb blockers and let him rush and play like Donald and Cox.

So we basically need to fire Bob Sutton and become a 4-3 Dallas style team?

You're not likely to find a DL that's going to play the run as well as Jones plays the pass.

Donald maybe, but that's why he's the highest paid player in the league. It's what makes those guys like Houston in his prime or Mack right now so valuable.
