I'm sure different people have different opinions, but I've used IPVanish for about 8 months and I'm happy with it. It's not free: it's somewhere between 8 and 10 bucks per month for a subscription. To me it's worth it.
There are free VPN services that you can try out first. I believe BT Guard is one of the more popular ones. |

If I was an asshole I would do what coupons.com does an record the mac address and the name of the computer among other things.
