Marty has a short shelf life so there's no chance he'd be here 10 years. Maybe 5.
Hell, I wouldn't be pissed, and I'll tell you why... Marty knows how to build teams and he knows how to get to the playoffs. Does he struggle to win there? Obviously that is well known. However Marty turns bad teams into teams that win. After 4-5 years he'd ride off into the sunset and as long as we don't 'Norv Turner' our coach selection we'll be positioned to win for a while. Still, the best path would just be hiring a good coach who can transform the team and coach for 10+ years and give this team some needed stability. |

You have to be seriously reeruned to entertain the notion that a guy who will be 70 next September is going to come here and fix this franchise.
Did we learn nothing from hiring Romeo Crennel's old, soon-to-be-retired ass?

Marty can just be an interim GM/HC for this year with the understanding we are going another way for next year.
That is the most I could accept.

If you hire Marty you will also need a "Playoff Coordinator" as well.

Snyder is doing it even better the 2nd time around much quicker because of his rep, with an actual chance to win the Nat'l Championship because he has a legit Nat'l Championship caliber team to do it with.

Marty's not coming back. He already won a professional championship.

It doesn't change the fact that Schottenheimer took over a team that was far worse than the team we have right now. He immediately turned it into a team that had 9 consecutive winning seasons, making the playoffs 7 of those 9 years. Would I have liked more playoff wins and a Super Bowl or two? Yes. Do I think a couple of those 13-3 teams choked in the playoffs? Yes. Was I infuriated when Marty chose to start Grbac over Gannon against Denver in the 1997 playoff game. Yes. But to refer to that as a "failed run in KC" is simply reeruned. The Scott Pioli regime is the failed run in KC. The Chiefs were relevant and exciting when Marty was the head coach. Today they are pathetic and completely irrelevant. |

Marty was on the radio here recently. He was on Kietzman's show if my memory serves me correctly. He seemed incredibly wistful about his time in KC. He said multiple times that he made a huge mistake leaving KC. Honestly sounded like he was on the verge of tears. (Also sounded like he may have had a couple of drinks before the interview)

Right now I'd take it. Being runner-up beats the hell out of having the worst record in the NFL.
Oh, and K-State would crush your beloved Huskers if they played them. Luckily for the Huskers they ran away from the Big 12. |
