Hey guys - lets just pay elite contracts to every above average guy we have. That way we can spend
20/year on a QB 10/year on a RB or two 4/year on a FB 12/year on 2-3 WRs 12/year on 2 tackles 9/year on 2 guards 9/year on a center 15/year on 2 DEs 15/year on a NT 17/year on two OLBs 8/year on two ILBs 10/year on two CBs 9/year on two Safeties 4/year on a punter and 4/year on a Kicker It's just not feasible. The average salary on a 51 man salary cap is 2.8 mill. Is Hudson worth tying up 6.3% of your salary cap every year to fill 1 of 51 spots? I say no. Hudson's market value is 7.5/year, so to pay him 9 just because is dumb. |

What value are you getting for 9 mill at CENTER though? You can get top tier guards and tackles for that. Or a second tier receiver.

You could get that before the cap rise, I doubt you can get a top tier tackle at that price anymore. |

Add in the other potential free agents in the market, free agency itself and you get to 9 million. I wouldn't pay it myself, but I can see them wanting to keep their center. |

I brought it up in another thread I think, could be this one, but how valuable is having the best C in the game? Is the drop off from an elite player there to say an above average player there worth 4 million dollars difference or whatever it is?
I don't know. |

The center calls the line. The center and QB interaction/relationship is huge. The center has to be able to get the ball to the QB while dealing with an on rushing 350 lb. defensive nose tackle a nanosecond later.
People thinking that "he's just a center" is a laughable concept. The center is the keystone for the entire line. That being said, losing Hudson is going to be major, though paying 9m for his services is also major. Hudson/his agent know that he's the best lineman the Chiefs have by a substantial margin. Teams know he put up a very, very quality year with dogshit on both sides of him. He's worked with Smith for two years and there is synergy. He's got major leverage on them. He's going to get paid regardless. One just hopes that he is in an altruistic mood and gives the Chiefs a hometown discount. Otherwise, it's going to be hard for the Chiefs to fork over 9m while keeping balance on the team. (Though, I'm inclined to give Hudson more leeway in contract negotiations than Houston. Is Houston worth twice as much as Hudson on the open market? To the team? Who is the more attractive fall back - Kush or Ford?) |

That 9 mil figure includes a stipulation that he will record at least two albums.

Pass rusher is more valuable than the C. Easily.
And Ford wasn't drafted to replace Houston. If thats the case, you're going to have to replace the other OLB when Hali is cut loose. |

@JasonLaCanfora: Chiefs making a strong push to retain C Rodney Hudson. Not sure they can pull it off, but making an attempt. Many other teams interested

Is a 4 million dollar difference going from a 95% player at the center position to an unknown (Kush) worth it? Is a $13 million dollar difference going from a 95% player at the OLB position to a relatively largely unknown (Dee Ford) worth it? |

What Wiesewski"s going rate? I understand and appreciate Hudson's value to Smith. The synergy. But 9 mil? Sounds like hostage negotiations.
