What Happens If You Don't Change The Oil In Your Audi For 84,000 Miles....

Quote:
What happens if you don't change the oil on your Audi TT for 84,000 miles? Take a look.

This turned up on Reddit's ever-excellent r/JustRolledIntoTheShop. There's no explanation for why this car was allowed to atrophy like this, but it's possible the person who uploaded this picture immediately recoiled in horror and had to go puke before posting anything further.

Here's the picture in high res.
Part of the reason I am always scared to buy a used car. Many people have no idea about basic maintenance and drive their cars hard.

Just heard about the same thing at the dealership about warranties.

A guy with a full size Ram had never changed the oil so at about 90K it went to hell.

It was the only time Dodge did not honor the extended warranty.

BMW says 15k miles for an oil change when they are paying for it the first few years when new. With synthetic 10k is not unreasonable at all.

My BMW dealer would change my oil once a year regardless of mileage during the four year free maintenance period.

Use good oil. Doesn't have to be synthetic.

I've got a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with 280,000 miles on it. It had 20,000 on it when I got it. I rarely change the oil in it, maybe every 25,000 miles.

Did I mention the car is a steaming pile of monkey poo?

Like Rain Man alluded to, that 3,000 mile thing is so ingrained, it's hard to shake, even when the manual says differently.

not as often anyway.
losing a little viscosity might help compression in an WELL broken in motor.

I said might.
