Tim Collins leaves with some sort of injury. Something to keep an eye on.

Today's Topic of the Day: Alex Rios and Kendrys Morales
I'm growing more and more confident that at last ONE of these two hits at a high level this year... .750 OPS or better. And if that's the case, then the Royals should get a boost offensively. It would be better if both bounced back, obviously, but even one can be a big upgrade. Why? Well, with Jarrod Dyson still available for spot duty, if Rios or Morales sucks, one can be relegated to platoon partner status for Dyson. This would get Dyson into about 90 games-120 games as a starter, which is a little bit of a stretch for him - but not as bad as if he were a full-time starter. If Morales doesn't hit, Rios can DH, with Dyson playing CF and Cain sliding to RF. If Rios doesn't hit, Morales stays at DH, with Dyson in CF and Cain in RF.

I really soured on Tim Collins last year. The guy just didn't have it 90% of the time.

Except, it really is a concern. He left with a trainer. If he's out extended time, Finnegan more than likely gets the call for the pen.

I'd rather see Finny as a starter long term, but there is no question the Royals are better off with him in the pen this year, as opposed to Collins. |

It could also be Franklin Morales or a Buddy Bauman type, especially if it's a short-term injury.

Andy McCullough says on twitter that Collins felt tightness in his elbow and hopes to get an MRI tomorrow.

Tomorrow we will get to hear/see about Brian Flynn, a guy we got from the Aaron Crow trade. He has an MLB career of 25 IP and given up 24 ER. Cross your fingers. Also, the fans will get a chance of seeing Manaea and Almonte.

THIS. If it's even a little chilly, bring a jacket or something. The seats by the fountains are at least 10-15 degrees colder than the other seats in the stadium.

I believe Miami only used Flynn as a starter at the MLB level... he was a very mediocre prospect as a starting pitcher, but there's some hope he plays up out of the bullpen and can be an effective lefty on left guy.

After digging back in a little more, I think Will Smith might be a pretty good comparison for Flynn.
He's a 6-6/6-7 lefty with back-end starter potential. Fastball in the low 90s, good slider, changeup and curve that need work. That's pretty similar to what they had with Will Smith. If you move him to the pen and he's maxing out for 1-2 inning stints, you probably see the fastball and slider play up a little bit, and he becomes another power arm similar to Hochevar or Davis (Herrera excluded because his primary secondary pitch is not a breaking ball, Holland because he has always been a reliever). Sneaky little move by the Royals... this is a guy who can be a real weapon from the left side, and he's controlled for three years longer than Aaron Crow.
