Let's talk about the Jaguars

No rest for the weary. The train keeps rolling on.

This is going to be a huge test, but at least its at home.

How does this one play out?

We would be well served by practicing "getting the call" a bit more. Last week when TK got rung-up for a pick is a great example, we need to be as good at running the pick as the Donks were under Manning, and the Pats are with TB.

I think other teams have it worked into every pass they attempt - "if all else fails, flail on the ground and get a DPI cheap one" - and I think we have a long way to go in that aspect of the game.

Let's hope we get better at it.

If our weakness is the DBs, it may be we're perfectly fine because (if the JAGs stay true-to-form) they can take the day off. If our weakness is LB coverage, maybe we put DOD or Paul Newman (sp?) in there and bench Ragland for the day (and it wouldn't bother me much if he stayed there for a few weeks).

I'm just not seeing the scare here (as far as the JAGs offense is concerned). What am I not seeing? Yes, Westbrook has had one long TD that should have been about a 20-yarder (that went the distance instead). They appear to prefer the rush up the middle and it looks like Yeldon has some cut-back in his game (probably has a lot to do with their interior line).

Let us not forget we had 4 sacks in the donk game (and 1 tough-ass INT on the boundary).

What am I missing here?

Yeah, he is a real Hustler and makes a great spaghetti sauce too- Newmans own.

I have to ask the question (again) - do we see a lot of empty backfield sets too?

My guess would be max-protect from the shotgun (or pistol) which give us the RPO as well, Mr. Simply Red. Here's my theory ...

Teams are employing much more Cover 3 against the Chiefs this year as opposed to the Cover 1 scheme we saw so much of last year. Cover 1 is down 19% and Cover 3 is up 11%. The concept there is that "mobile" QBs are, of course, more difficult to defend with man schemes. However, the difference between Mahomes and a lot of other "mobile" QBs is that he's running to throw (as opposed to running to run, a la Wishkins).

The Chiefs have run the shotgun/pistol on over 80% of our snaps so far this season. This is the tendency the bundle of stickss (sp?) will think is their secret sauce. It won't be. They'll run the Cover 3 most often, we'll show shotgun, motion to max-protect and Mahomes will tear them apart if they try to contain him in the pocket.

But if they do start getting pressure, it's the jet action and the RPO all day. Read the key DE or LB and make them drink the poison they concocted for themselves.

Another fascinating factoid (at least, to me) ...

The KC Chiefs have TWICE the DVOA on 3rd and 4th down (when throwing the rock) compared to ANY OTHER OFFENSE IN THE LEAGUE! That's right. Don't make me type it twice.

No other offense is even close. I urge you guys to think about that ... we could be twice as bad using those plays on those downs and still tie for first. That's how good this offense is.

It’s funny how so often these days when a great offense meets a great defense, most people jump to the conclusion that the defense has the upper hand for some reason...

I don’t see it that way. I think JAX needs 30 to win Sunday at minimum.

Hate to ask, but I’m currently sitting at DIA in Denver, heading to Cheyenne to my second home and will be there all week end. Any chance someone knows of a way to stream the game from the middle of nowhere? Thanks!

There is a good possibility of a weather delay IMO. Scattered thunderstorms all day Sunday.
