Not everyone automatically accepts whatever the CP "braintrust" tells them they should believe. Some of us form our own opinions. You should try it some time.

Not at all. I use my brain, and don't just jump on the bandwagon here. This site is filled with a handful of cynical self declared experts and a bunch of blind followers.

wow the Chiefs literally put ZERO value on QB's. RB's are a dime a dozen these days and Charles gets what he wants in 5 Minutes. Smith still waiting. What a familiar story with the Chiefs, its almost comical.

Actually, the word literally now has two definitions (unfortunately) to include meaning it's opposite.

Merriam-Webster added a second usage of the word to mean "virtually," but added the disclaimer that "Since some people take sense 2 to be the opposite of sense 1, it has been frequently criticized as a misuse. Instead, the use is pure hyperbole intended to gain emphasis, but it often appears in contexts where no additional emphasis is necessary."

So as obnoxious as it is, it appears that you don't know what literally means... literally.

One guy is elite at his position and carried our offense last season. He asked for and received a quick and reasonable increase.

The other guy is Alex Smith. He's probably asking for too much money for his level of talent. We'll see how it plays out.

Just messing with you. I did not love the trade for Smith originally but now I am in the sign him camp. He played very well and his play only got better through the season.

Here's the problem with Sac's "You'll invest lots of cash in a freakin RB, S, and LB, but not your QB? Dumb!" argument.

It implies that the QB we're not investing in is as good for his position as that RB, S, and LB are at theirs. We fully recognize that Alex Smith is not a shit turd franchise-killing QB like Cassel was, but he still has yet to prove he can overcome the severe limitations that have haunted him his entire career. You know, the criticisms of chucking it when he needs to, not being quite so skittish in the face of pressure, and playing out of his conservative self more. Sorry, but 8 games against shitty defenses and shootout-type game environments doesn't really convince me that he can be that kind of QB for the future.

The investment in him long term would be just fine if we paid the appropriate dollar amount for him. Just like ANY position. He's just not the kind of super stud you can afford to overpay.

I think Justin Houston is that kind of player. I think Eric Berry might be that kind of player. And that's fine, because overpaying these guys means an extra $2-3 million per year off the cap MAX.

Overpaying for Alex, if he turned down $17 million per year, means overpaying by 7-10 million each year off the cap. And that's too ****ing much for what he's proven he can do.

The team has to be built the right way. Either we ride with a QB like Alex and have the money to surround him with a **** balls awesome defense and supporting cast, or we keep searching for a QB talented enough that we can overpay one day. Otherwise we're not winning any Super Bowls, and frankly, I don't think we're going to be winning any playoff games any time soon.

And if he's turning up his nose at $17m/per, then he can eat the heartiest of dick salads.
No most people were disappointed because they were sick of picking up other teams back ups, but they were at least willing to give him a chance. What would you have done? IMO the draft and start a QB crowd at all costs crowd are just as reeruned as the blind homer crowd. That's how you become Cleveland.
