Per Verderame: Veach would prefer to keep Chris Jones
Interesting article here. Not a huge fan of Verderame but he was at the Super Bowl and he does go to the combine. I think he gets some tips, albeit from Terez (who is a nice guy).
Here is the most interesting part of the article. 2021 and 2022 would be extremely difficult to manage. Quote:

If Diggs, Taylor, or Delpit are still there at 32, that extra year is nice for KC as well.

Probably doesn't drastically alter who KC can get with its first selection in the draft, and have another mid-rounder could be huge.

The more I think about it, the more I think that if Veach thinks he can keep Jones without hamstringing the team, then that's probably the right way to go.
Veach proved that he's a more than capable GM this past season. I have no questions at all about his abilities anymore to do his job well. If he thinks he can keep Jones without hurting the team, I believe that he can. I am very curious to see how he does it though. |

Shouldn't we be expecting a comp pick for losing Morse and Nelson and only adding HB?

If the Chiefs have zero flexibility with the cap going forward by signing second contracts, they are screwed. Injuries happen. If we still had Alex Smith and a reasonable contract, of course you sign Jones. But we don't. Get the picks, don't sign another mega-contract and maintain cap flexibility for opportune player pickups and injuries.

Would Jones play under the Franchise tag....or would he hold out?
You can get rid of players like Watkins, Erving, Colquitt and some others if you wanted, tag Jones and still have a decent amount of money to work with. |

Okafor? We also signed Wilson, but Conley going to the Jags cancels that one out |

Yes, you could make it work for 2020, but you are just adding pressure in future years. I'd make all those cuts anyway, but give Veach extra draft picks to keep this roster young and cheap. It's not like we are suddenly not going to be a playoff contender. Just got to be smart. |
