Alex Smith just wins!

Props for the QB who always finds a way to win. Things weren't going our way in the first half but he didn't quit and found a way to lead us to victory.

Some of this DOES fall on Alex too. If he gets jittery, or doesn't believe in either his arm or target downfield, he'll just take the checkdown to get something positive. He likes high % shots, usually.

How do you check down to a pattern that 100 percent relies on timing, like a slant?

true. The one where DAT was to his left stands out. It's not as if the RB? West? on the right of him wasn't open. Smith just never even looked over to his left to see DAT. Would have been nice.. but split second decision like that? Not gonna slam that. The easy misses to Kelce and Conley, though? Hell yeah... Smith sucked ass on those misses.

When you wrote that you have been watching conservative play for over a decade now, I figured you were specifically referring to Smith playing in conservative schemes...in which my initial thought was, "well, of course! There is no other way to operate an offense with an ultra-limited Smith behind center and simultaneously not having the absolute worst QB in the NFL!!!!!"

Even if we traded up to #1 this offseason and drafted one it would take time. How often does a 23 or 24 year old QB start in the Super Bowl?

Like it or not Smith is this team's QB. If the Chiefs get to the promised land with this team it will be behind Smith. A young QB leading us there would, best case, be 3-4 years out. We'd have to rebuild a lot of the roster before then.

There's no point in throwing tantrums or deluding ourselves that some magical QB is going to step out of the shadows at Pick #25 in April.

I think it may come sooner than you think, but we'll see. Depending on how Smith finishes this season, KC could elect to draft an early QB. Then, they could decide Smith isn't doing enough to earn that next year's big money.. and part ways.. maybe bring in a cheaper vet like him to compete with the rookie in 2017.

maybe... Heck, maybe Smith elects to retire after this season.

There is no chance that someone else will be starting week 1 2017 for the Chiefs, barring some kind of total collapse or catastrophic injury. None.

This Chiefs' playoff chances are above 90% at this point. There is a good chance of being the 2 seed.

There is absolutely zero chance, even if they got shellacked in the first playoff game, that a playoff team would jettison their QB and start a rebuild-reload mode. No chance whatsoever. It's not happening.

I hope it doesn't happen but the writing is on the wall that Smith will cost us the division. He can't lead us to scores against the crappy defenses we've faced how will he against Denver or in the playoffs?

I realize Foles was shaky in his one game but it's sucks that he sits on the bench like Gannon did when we have a better chance with him playing.

You know why he likes high percentage shots? Because it keeps him on the field. If he was required to go through all of his reads....he'd be benched because he's not good at it.

If he's going to play conservative that's fine - it can be successful.

But part of that his not having negative plays. If the play isn't there throw the ball away. If you can't scramble throw the ball away.

When that play happened I saw DAT run out of the TV screen and figured he was covered, which must have been why Smith never even looked his way and went to Ware instead. Then I saw the replay, that showed the full screen, and just shook my head in utter disbelief ... Had the same reaction to the misses you listed as well.

You can probably use this for every QB in the League on every game. There is likely to be someone wide open once or twice in every game that a QB never looks his way at. This isn't Madden, where WE as the QB can see every target at every moment during every play.

Again. Smith was not good. He screwed up a lot.. but a play like this being persecuted is just a stretching effort to pile on.
