With Disney investing in Avatar Land, that wouldn't be surprising at all.

Since Star Wars established itself well in December instead of May, it makes more sense to keep its releases in December while Avatar goes in either late May or 4th of July.

It also gives Rian Johnson more time to re-write Episode IX, which has to happen since he's making changes to Episode VIII.

They may have also been a little over-ambitious with the original schedule, trying to begin shooting in spring 2016 and releasing in spring 2017.

I doubt we'll see Episode IX until December, 2019 now and I wouldn't be surprised if the Han Solo spinoff doesn't arrive until December 2018.

The thought of Dave Franco playing Han Solo makes me ill, anyway.

It's probably a little bit of both. I'm sure audience reaction to VII and weaker plot points gave Waltmart plenty big enough of a sounding board to tinker with the plot and character focus for VIII. Pushing it back into the holiday box office slot certainly is nothing but gravy for them. I actually kind of like the idea of the SW series films being an annual holiday release, and then you can do the solo standalone SWU movies for a Memorial Day or 4th of July slot.

Either way, why rush it and get sloppy to push it out vs a 5 month reschedule .

I just looked at a few pics and videos of him since you mentioned him. He does have a bit of that vibe to him. He comes across as a worldly smart ass.

Those are the other choices? Blah. It's hard for me to describe what I think a young Han Solo should look like other than just to stupidly say, "Be a young Harrison Ford", which isn't realistic of course. Scott Eastwood really isn't it either but at least I think I could buy him as the character.
