I know he's had some injuries in his career, but I like Texas LB Jordan Hicks in the mid rounds, maybe round 4.

Only ILB I would draft rd 1 is Shaq Thompson. Kendricks or Perryman early rd 2 in a trade up if we really want them

Honestly, I was a big Perryman guy until I watched Paul Dawson single handedly destroy Mississippi State.
The way Dawson played was Derrick Johnson-esque. He's exactly what we need. |

And yes, Shaq Thompson doesn't fit our defense.

You win. I just watched the first three TCU defensive snaps from the TCU/Texas game and I'm blown away. Dude is absolutely fierce. Dawson was singlehandedly ****ing Texas up, much in the same way he did Ole Miss. The Derrick Johnson comparison is a fair one. And he doesn't play OLB. He's playing the rover ILB position for Dick Bumpas' 4-2-5 defense. He's definitely an ILB and looks like he could carry a lot more weight to play in a 34. |

Dawson is a heatseeking missile. I do worry though about him in our scheme though. Hes not a very big, or strong dude, he has great speed and instincts but once a tackle gets locked on to him he is absolutely done. It doesnt happen often given their defensive scheme, and the caliber of of players theyre playing, but an NFL level lineman is going to get their hands on him often in a 3-4, and i'm not sure how effective he'll be. He looks like a great 4-3 prospect though.

Seriously...I got a little chub watching Dawson. Total impact player.
I'd have a hard time choosing between him or Ole Miss safety Cody Prewitt in the second round. The Chiefs already have a pretty stout line in front of the backers and with Sutton running sub-packages all the time, we're pretty much running a version of the 4-2-5 anyway with Houston and Hali as the two front guys after Poe and Bailey. I know what you are saying jonzie about a traditional 34 alignment, but considering what Sutton put out on the field in 2014, I think Dawson would really play well in this scheme. Shit! Prewitt or Dawson... shit, shit, shit, shit... |

The thing to consider is what type of safety is going to be there in the later rounds if you go with Dawson in the second versus Prewitt, or if you go with Prewitt, what type of ILB is going to be there later. They have to have both in this draft. First rounder has to be a dominant OL guy who can potentially play/start at four spots (both tackle and guard positions). I like Collins from LSU in that role. But after that, we've got to address ILB, S, WR.
I think I'd still take Prewitt in the second and then Terrance Plummer, ILB Central Florida later in the draft. Plummer plays a similar position for the Knights and, like Dawson, makes a ton of impact plays. I just don't think that there is a guy like Prewitt in this draft and he's excelled at the single high safety role for the Rebels his whole career. Direckshun, watch Plummer and see if you don't see the same type of player that Dawson is: |
