Should the Chiefs have drafted Aaron Rodgers over Derrick Johnson?

Would we have been in a better position now???

Rodgers would have gotten to learn from Trent Green a few years....

Hmmmm....thoughts to ponder.

With Hindsight, of course.

Thats not to say anything bad about DJ, he has developed into a STUD player......Its just that Rodgers is a STUD QB , and looks like he will be in that elite beast mode for 10 years.

Don't get me wrong. The QB has always been the most important position on the field for a long time but there were other ways to win a SB.

Take the Bucs in 2003 as an example. So yes, I'd say the change is about as recent as 5-6 years ago.

I don't know what you're looking for people to say with posing this very easy question. Yes we all wish they would have taken Aaron Rogers who is now the game's best QB. Obviously.

Oh and I haven't posted in this massive thread yet, but I'd take Aaron Rodgers every time if we could go back and do that draft again. He's the best QB in the NFL.

I love revisionist history.

Would I love to have Rodgers now? Absolutely. Although, he probably isn't the same QB for the Chiefs that he is for Green Bay. He had a few years to sit and the Packers worked on his mechanics relentlessly. He has a different release than when he came out of college.

Chiefs had Trent Green go down the following year, so Rodgers may just have been another Jim Tedford QB bust.

Oh, and that reminds me why he slid as far as he did. Rodgers was the fifth QB coached by Tedford to go in the first round. He is the ONLY one that has been elite in the NFL. The second best QB coached by Tedford? Dilfer. Oh, and add in guys like Boller, Akili Smith and Joey Harrington. Oooh.... some, great NFL pedigrees there, huh?

So, looking back, I am still not sure I would want Rodgers only because I don't know that we have had the consistency on the coaching staff that helped him develope into an elite player. This guy wasn't NFL ready coming out and was a project.

Well, with the new rookie salary cap rules and slotting, I agree. There is much less of a risk to take a QB early. If it fails, it won't set the franchise back years like it used to.

But, a mere two years after Rodgers, Quinn dropped. He was also a 'possible' #1 pick. The reality is that under the old rules, it was most often better to draft a guy with a higher floor than a higher ceiling if you had any doubt at all.

I am very happy for the new rookie wage scale and slotting system, becuase I think it will make for better drafts overall.

totally, its like when we drafted tyson jackson. ANY team in our position would have done the same exact thing. jackson was THE next sure thing. NOBODY could have known he might be a bust at the time.

Not sure I agree with that. I didn't love the pick at the time.

He has actually improved a good bit this year. Not enough to justify where he was drafted, but at least a solid starter.

this thread is completely stupid.

If someone, anyone, legitimately wanted Rodgers before, during, or within 2 years of the 2005 draft, lets see the proof. Chiefs fans were pretty much cuming in their pants after DJ fell to us.

Okay, I don't pay enough attention to who posts what.... so this 'may' be sarcasm....if so, bravo.

If not, then you should know that I don't want Sanchez anymore than I want to wreck my car.

I would have been fine with Stafford or Freeman. Freeman is a project, but has more upside than Sanchez.

Id have to find the 05 draft thread, and I'm not sure I ever posted it but when Rodgers fell, I did want us to take him. He was pretty well thought of that year. It's not like he was a Tom Brady afterthought type. Regardless, at least the chiefs didn't blow the pick like the vikes and raiders did.

That whole first round was down compared to other years. How many consistent pro-bowl/HOF level guys were picked?

DeMarcus Ware, Aaron Rodgers, and Roddy White were the clear winners, while DJ, Logan Mankins, Heath Miller, Luis Castillo, Carlos Rogers, and Cedric Benson make up the 2nd tier, and some of those guys weren't worth the pick that got 'em.
