***Official 2014 STL Cardinals thread part II***

Original thread was getting to large for the board

2011 WS Championship
2012 one win from another WS
2013 two wins from another WS title
2014 Central Division title and NLCS series win (so far)

This is a franchise that has made the postseason 10 times in the last 14 seasons.

Only 1 losing season since 2000.

Reached the World Series 4 times since 2004 and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.

Our new Manager has more post season experience than any other manager in baseball, except the Giants manager.

Made the NLCS 8 times

Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.

60 post season wins since 2004. 20+ wins more than any other team.

Well, shit. I just looked at the total years and figured the AAV. I didn't know all the money was in the final three. That's twice as bad as Craig's deal from an escalation standpoint.

Probably have to pass on that one.

Which is probably why the Rockies are shopping him. Or maybe they think last year was closer to the norm than his lifetime BA. Either way, too costly for us to take on.

Another right field idea. Jason Heyward? Let him hit 2nd?

So talking about moving carpenter out of the lead off spot and into the 2 hole, or the 3 hole.

He hits a lot of doubles. Can work the count to give someone a chance to steal a base. Not getting the most production out of his bat leading off. Those lead off doubles are being wasted. Someone on in front of him, those gappers score a run.

His OB% is fantastic but he should be a #2 hitter. We just need someone to step up and bat lead off. Wong is the best candidate but he needs to earn more walks and quit trying to hit home runs.

Just got Jason Heyward and RP Jordan Walden for Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins. Gotta say I like this deal. I did like Shelby, but Heyward was the guy I was hoping for and they didn't have to give up a ton. Hopefully Heyward can start living up to his original hype a bit more.

Hate moving Shelby and Jenkins, but I'm not sure what to make of Shelby.

Yeah looked like Shelby was maybe starting to finally put it all together. I've heard Jenkins name for a few years now but it seems like he's had trouble staying healthy long enough to get him moved up any higher than single-A so far.

Cards have a surplus of pitching right now and Shelby is way too Jeckyl and Hyde throughout the course of a season. I am glad the Cards finally traded some of the surplus in pitching to address a need in the field.

Without Shelby, the 5-man looks like this, in my opinion:

Waino
Wacha
Lynn
Lackey
Gonzalez/Martinez/Masterson

Isn't Heyward a rental? Since when do we trade a "potential" #1 for a rental?

Heyward is under control for a year iirc. He's 25 though and is about to be in his prime playing years. Sign him longterm

I've had that feeling like the Cards were just waiting to trade Miller. The guy has a ton of potential but is just a headache at times. Hopefully Heyward can learn to not swing at those high fastballs.

I bet Mo was already thinking about signing him long term before he made this trade.
