How can we improve Chiefs discussion around here?

I've mentioned my disappointment in the quality of discussion in a few threads lately, but figured it's worth a more meta discussion to figure out 1) if I'm alone in this perception and 2) if there's anything that can be done about it.

Back in the old days, I walked 20 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways!

Err...wait. I mean, ChiefsPlanet was THE place where I got my Chiefs news. If an article was worth reading on another site, it was linked here. If there was a tweet with Chiefs news, it was posted here 30 seconds after it hit Twitter. If someone said something worthwhile on the radio, someone would post about it on here. And (with all due respect to those who like megathreads), you could glance at the front page and have a pretty decent idea of what the big news was for the day.

After returning home from the boonies on Sunday morning, however, I honestly had no idea how the game Saturday even went. I ended up visiting Arrowhead Pride and Chiefs Digest just to get a feel for what went down. Am I the weird one for thinking that that sucks?

Anyway, just figured it's worth the discussion. If it turns out that everyone is pretty content the way things are, I'll just bookmark some other resources and move on with life. But if I'm not alone, what can we do to make things better?

Message boards in general are slowly going the way of the dodo because of stuff like facebook, reddit, twitter, and other forms of social media. Younger people will always go for that first if they want to discuss football or any sports. A couple of months ago someone at arrowheadpride linked to a thread here and most of the replies were how this place looked awful and like a relic from the napster days. Combine that with the fact that older users get tired and/or grow out of message boards(happens all the time, a lot of times due to infighting), I can definitely see why traffic and or discussion can die down and places like these become ghost towns.

Also, if people want in depth quality discussions then they should really be lobbying the moderators to tighten shit up then. Usual internet culture these days dictates that the less moderation there is, the less quality of discussion there will be. I mean, why write a multiple paragraph analysis, or create anything that takes a decent amount of time when it will just get buried under pages of an argument that never ends(alex smith talk, I'm also guilty of it).

I also support more moderation, but not to the point of outright censorship. But when a silly slapfight goes page apon page it would be nice to see a mod get in there and tell them to make a thread for it.

Also, all Alex Smith talk from now on should probably go into a megathread. It's ruined far too many threads the last 2 and half years.
This is a mega thread I support. In fact, I think I tried to start one once.

EDIT: And there is no way in **** I'm discussing football on facebook reddit or twitter. Maybe I have bad friends but damn.

It's probably a combination of several things... people get older and less tolerant of bullshit, people get tired of reading the same stuff every single year, shit like spouses and kids happen, and people tend to always yearn for the good old days.

Of course, that doesn't mean the good old days never end, but if you didn't leave because of the stupidity in 2005, it's not the stupidity that's driving you away today.
I know you're using "stupidity" differently, but for me the influx of stupidity is exactly what makes this board so much less enjoyable than it used to be. It seems like it all started when guys like ROR came on, and then it's gone downhill from there. I mean, we've lost a ton of good posters and many others have pretty much quit posting.

I used to get in football arguments all the time with guys like Mecca, Hamas, OTWP, etc. At least they were intelligent arguments though and backed with facts on both sides.

Hell, then you lose a guy like FAX, and a pretty damn entertaining poster in Skip Town, and replace them with ROR.

Tough to keep a board running when the intelligence level so drastically shifts overnight.

I would say both. There are some newer posters who have things to learn (as we all do) and they do, but you see some people just posting ridiculous things and when corrected continue junking up the threads with nonsense. That typically comes from newer posters in the threads. And you think things get bad in a Chiefs game thread 16 times a year, with 162 game threads a year you see the same repetitive drivel basically every day.

I think this thread will help things out quite a bit.

We all needed a kick in the ass. Something needed to snap us out of the funk.
