Nolan's Batman 3 Title

Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

Agreed that they could probably do better than Bane & Catwoman, but that's what I said when I heard Ras & Scarecrow were going to be in the 1st one and Nolan knocked it out of the park. Guess I trust him to do the same here.

But like many of you, I have that sneaking suspicion that a majority of people will see it because of Ledger & wind up disappointed.
Batman Begins was a revisioning of Year 1.

The Dark Knight was a revisioning of the Killing Joke.

This will be a revisioning of Knightfall.

I think the movie will disappoint. I'm not sure it will be bad, but it's going to be hard to exceed expectations for a 3rd time.

The movie is going to great. Will it be better than TDK? I don't know. I don't expect it to be, but that's all personal taste. But there's no way in hell it's a bad movie. Nolan might be incapable of making a bad movie.

Relax, guys. It's all gonna be fine.

I loved Following. Especially given how it was made and the fact that it's his first feature effort. I guess compared to the rest of his work, it's not as impressive.

But it's certainly not a bad movie. Many have made far worse with far more.

No joy for those of us in the KC metro wanting to see the opening scene before Ghost Protocol. As rumored, they're only showing it in theatres that support the 70mm IMAX format.

Nice.

The Dark Knight Rises prologue is rumored to tell Bane's origin story, an assassin for The League of Shadows. He's on a mission to take out a high value target on an airplane when something goes wrong and the plane crashes. The injuries sustained by Bane during the crash lead to him having to wear the face apparatus seen in the film, a device designed to regularly administer painkilling drugs that Bane cannot live without.

That's just wrong. I remember watching the Dark Knight preview before I am Legend at the AMC 30 IMAX in Olathe.

I guess they don't want to use venom, but painkillers. Is he not going to get huge and turn into the juggernaut type?

There's a couple of rumors running, nobody knows which one's legit (if any are...).
