That's your opinion. I don't have an opinion. I thought that Smith looked decent at the Combines, which was really my first chance to watch him outside of the K-State game and the Pinstripe Bowl. I watched some YouTube videos this past week in which I saw a lot of inconsistencies. But my opinion is neither here nor there. Reid and Dorsey clearly didn't like him at #1 (or any of this year's QB prospects), so it's out of my control.

I'm not sure whether they liked him or not. It could have as much to do with wanting an immediate answer. And yes, I realize quarterbacks can play right away. I would even expect that for a #1 pick. But every rookie goes through a learning curve and progression, and they're all (well, the good ones at least) better, more complete players by year 4. And maybe they just didn't want to wait for that fourth year, or risk an unknown result, in favor of a known quantity like A Smith.

Personally, I think the decision was made before the hire was made, in the 9 hour meeting Clark had with Andy Reid. I don't think there was any chance that we were ever going to draft a quarterback, and I don't think that has to have any reflection of any kind on this draft class. I think they were always risk-averse, because I think they see the clock is ticking on the best players on this roster, and I think they were always going this direction.

I will say that I didn't "love" the guy, like so many here, so seeing them move past him isn't big "emotional" journey for me. Whatever happens to his career is inconsequential because clearly, he's not going to be a Chief.

I'm upset about the Alex Smith trade simply because of Alex Smith. It doesn't have anything to do with Geno Smith. Other people keep bringing him up for whatever reason.

I find it very curious that people are upset about the Alex Smith trade, as if he's the only QB on the horizon for the Chiefs in the next five years. It's bizarre.

I think he is the only QB on the horizon for the Chiefs for at least the next two years, and at his age, well, 5 years probably is a fair expectation. I don't think they give up what they're purportedly giving up for a rental. He's the future here. Like it or not.

Dorsey and Reid both have documented histories and drafting and developing QB's, whether it's Brunnel, Hasselbeck, Brooks or Rodgers to Kolb, Feeley, etc.

Trading for Alex Smith only insures ONE thing: The Chiefs will enter the 2013 season with an experienced veteran QB, something that does not exist on this roster.

Trading for Smith does not preclude the Chiefs from taking a developmental QB in the 2013 draft, nor does it preclude them from taking a QB next year. All it does is insure that they have a starting QB in place to begin the 2013 season.

I think it absolutely does preclude them from taking a developmental quarterback, as you put it, certainly in 2013 and likely in 2014, unless they're picking in the top 5 again next year. Unless of course you count a late round trash pick like Ricky Stanzi as a developmental quarterback. I could see them doing something like that. But nothing more serious or legitimate than that. We're talking Zac Dysert/Landry Jones/Matt Smith/Sean Renfree in the fourth, fifth or sixth as best case scenario.

Just the way I see it.

As someone that has criticized the Hunt Family for the past 40 years, I have to admit that I was surprised and pleased with Clark Hunt's actions this offseason. He acted swiftly, identified who he felt was the best candidate for head coach and GM and signed them.

At this point, I would be again, surprised, if he allowed this team to flounder.

Now that they have nobody picking in front of them, with a HC and GM with a clean slate, AGAIN, they are trading for another Cassel and will probably be taking another "safe" fatty with the first overall.

Well I've been very positive about Hunt's offseason as well. But I would have used that as reasoning for why they wouldn't sign Alex Smith too, and that one came to pass....
